Career

society

Luis Muriel began his professional career in 2009 with the Colombian club Deportivo Cali , for which he played eleven games by 2010 and scored nine goals. Because of this impressive hit rate, European clubs quickly noticed him. In summer 2010, he opted for a move to Udinese Calcio in the Italian Serie A . In order to gain match practice and to develop a feeling for European football before joining Udinese, he was loaned to FC Granada , which was playing in the Segunda División at the time . At Granada he made only seven missions in one year, which remained without a goal. When his loan contract expired in 2011, he was loaned out directly to US Lecce . There he was used 29 times in one season and scored seven times in the opposing goal. In summer 2012 he finally returned to Udinese and promptly extended his contract for five years in September 2012. In the play-off rounds for the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League he scored two goals in the game against NK Široki Brijeg .

In January 2015 Muriel signed a contract until 2019 with league rivals Sampdoria Genoa . After two years he left Italy for Spain and joined Sevilla FC . He signed a five-year contract with the Andalusians . The transfer fee was around 20 million euros and can be increased through bonus payments.

On January 1, 2019, Muriel moved to Fiorentina on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season . He then moved to Atalanta Bergamo for 15 million euros , where he has been under contract since July 1, 2019.

National team

Muriel was appointed to the Colombian national team for the first time in 2012 and made his debut in the lost World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on June 10, 2012. His first goal for the team he scored a year later in the friendly against Guatemala. At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil , he was only part of the extended squad. At the Copa America 2015 he was back in the squad.

He was part of the Colombian squad at the 2018 World Cup in Brazil . He came to two missions and was eliminated with the team in the round of 16 against England on penalties.
