Alejandro Darío "Papu" Gómez (born February 15, 1988 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine football player who is under contract with Atalanta Bergamo .
Club career
After Gómez started his career at Arsenal de Sarandí in 2003, he was taken on in the professional department and moved to CA San Lorenzo in 2009 . A year later he moved to the Italian Serie A for Catania Calcio . Gómez later played for Metalist Kharkiv . He has been under contract with Atalanta Bergamo since 2014 . At Bergamo, Gómez became a top performer and has been wearing the captain's armband since the 2016/17 season. In that season, with 16 goals and twelve assists, he reached fifth place on the scorer list in Serie A and led his team to fourth place in the table and thus into the Europa League . In the following season he was able to show consistently strong performances (six goals, twelve assists ). On the first match day of the 2018/19 season in his team's 4-0 win against Frosinone Calcio , Gómez scored two goals and prepared the other two.
National team
Gómez first appeared for the Argentine national team on June 13, 2017 at the age of 29. He was nominated by Jorge Sampaoli for the friendlies against Brazil and Singapore and was on the starting line-up in the 6-0 win against Singapore. He managed a goal and an assist; it was changed after 70 minutes. Then there were three more appearances: In the 0-0 World Cup qualification against Peru on October 6, 2017 , he played for the full duration, in November 2017 in the friendlies against Russia (1-0) and Nigeria (2-4 ) he was substituted on for about half an hour. Since then he has not been nominated for the national team.

The dance of Alejandro Gómez, which he performs as a goal celebration, is the subject of the song Baila Como El Papu . He was a feature guest on the song by Dj Matrix and the group Gli Autogol . It reached number 21 in the Italian charts in May 2017 and stayed in the top 100 for a total of 14 weeks. The music video on YouTube had more than 40 million views as of October 2018. In addition to Gómez, various well-known people participated in the video in short clips, including the footballer Fabrizio Cacciatore .
