Career

society

Gosens, son of a Dutch father and a German mother, was born in Emmerich am Rhein in the Lower Rhine region on the Dutch border and grew up in the Elten district . He started playing soccer at Fortuna Elten at the age of six. As a D-Junior he moved to 1. FC Bocholt and in the C-Youth to the Münsterland club VfL Rhede . In the course of an A-youth game with Rhede, he was noticed by a scout from the Dutch first division club Vitesse Arnheim , so he finally moved there. He was retrained to the position of left-back and was initially intended for the club's U-23 reserve. In July 2013 he signed a professional contract for the first team of coach Peter Bosz . In order to get match practice, Gosens was loaned to the second division club FC Dordrecht in January 2014 for the second half of the season, where he was viewed by the local press as a “king transfer”. A few days later he made his debut in the Eerste Divisie in a 1-1 draw against Excelsior Rotterdam . With FC Dordrecht he rose to the Eredivisie at the end of the season. The loan contract with Vitesse was then extended by one year.

In summer 2015, Gosens moved to Heracles Almelo , with whom he qualified for the European Cup after completing the Eredivisie 2015/16 . After two years he left the club and went to the Italian Serie A for Atalanta Bergamo . With Atalanta Bergamo he reached the round of 16 in the Europa League in the 2017/18 season , in which the Lombards were narrowly eliminated in the round of 32 against Borussia Dortmund. Gosens established himself as a regular on the left wing and with third place in Serie A 2018/19 and Serie A 2019/20 he made it into the Champions League with Atalanta .

National team

On August 25, 2020, Robin Gosens was nominated by national coach Joachim Löw for the games in the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League against Spain and against Ukraine for the first time for the German national team and thus for the first time for a German national team.
