Timothy Castagne (born December 5, 1995 in Arlon ) is a Belgian football player . The full-back is under contract with Atalanta Bergamo in the Italian Serie A and is a national team player .
Career in the club
Castagne was born in Arlon in the province of Luxembourg and started playing football with US SB Waitzing-Bonnert before joining the youth team at Royal Excelsior Virton, the largest club in the province, via FC Lorrain Arlon. In 2011, Castagne joined KRC Genk's football school. On September 14, 2014, he made his debut in the Belgian first division under Scottish coach Alex McLeish at the age of 18 when he played through in a 1-1 home game against Club Bruges . In the following years he was used regularly and was mostly in the starting line-up, but in most cases he played through. In seventh place, KRC Genk qualified for the play-offs, in which the club missed participation in the finals with second place. In the following season, Castagne was one of the regular players in the defense of the Flemings up to and including the 14th matchday, although he was not used on the 13th matchday due to a yellow card suspension. After seven years in Genk, Castagne moved to Italy for the 2017/18 season in Serie A with Atalanta Bergamo . In his first season in Lombardy he found himself on the bench more often, but won a regular place in the final phase of the season and made 20 appearances in the top Italian division at the end of the season. In the UEFA Europa League, Atalanta Bergamo was knocked out of the last 32 against Borussia Dortmund , Timothy Castagne only made three appearances, in the Coppa Italia Juventus Turin proved to be too big.
