Stéphane Besle (born January 23, 1984 in Haguenau ) is a former French football player . He was most recently under contract with FC Aarau .

Career

Beginnings (until 2005)

Born in Alsace, Besle, he started playing football with the youngsters at SC Schiltigheim before moving to the youth academy of the then first division team Racing Strasbourg . From there he switched to the offspring of the RC Lens . In 2001 he joined the second team. In the 2003/04 season Besle made his professional debut; on January 18, 2004 he was substituted on in the 2: 3 defeat on the 21st matchday of Ligue 1 against Olympique Marseille in the 75th minute for Daouda Jabi . This remained his only game for the professional Lens team.

Neuchâtel Xamax (2005 to 2012)

In 2005 Besle moved to Neuchâtel Xamax in the Swiss Super League . He made his debut for the club from Neuchâtel on August 27, 2005 when he was 3-0 on matchday seven against FC Basel in the starting lineup. In the following years, the now 21-year-old defender became a regular player. On November 18, 2005 Besle scored his first goal for Xamax in a 3-2 win on matchday 15 against FC Thun with the goal of the interim 1: 2. In the end, however, Xamax rose to the second division, the Challenge League ; previously they were inferior to FC Sion in the Barrage . Besle stayed in Neuchâtel and was also active in the second division for the club in 2007 to help with direct promotion. In the years that followed, people alternated between mediocrity and relegation battle. In January 2012, Besle and his three teammates Haris Seferović , Javier Arizmendi and Vincent Bikana were terminated without notice after complaining to the club's board about outstanding salary payments.

Between France and Switzerland (2012 to 2017)

After his dismissal in Neuchâtel, Besle was also in discussion with the German clubs TSV 1860 Munich and FC Ingolstadt . Ultimately, he returned to France and signed for half a year with FC Metz, which was then playing in Ligue 2 . By the end of the season he had made 15 appearances for Metz. Besle and the Lorraine were relegated to the third class national at the end of the season .

After relegation, Besle returned to Switzerland and signed with FC St. Gallen , which had previously been promoted to the Axpo Super League . He made his debut for the team from St. Gallen on September 1, 2012, when he was in the starting line-up against FC Sion on matchday 8 and was replaced by Philippe Montandon after 88 minutes . In his first year in Eastern Switzerland, he played 24 games and scored four goals. With St. Gallen, Besle took third place in the table, which was equivalent to participating in the qualification for the Europa League . There they prevailed against Spartak Moscow in the play-off round . He made his European debut on September 19, 2013 in the first Europa League group game against FK Kuban Krasnodar ; Besle was in the starting line-up. The game was won 2-0. On November 7, 2013, Besle scored his first goal in a European Cup with a header to make it 1-1 in the 3-2 defeat by Valencia CF. In the league, Besle came to 29 missions and scored one goal, in the Europa League he came to six missions; FC St. Gallen dropped out in the group stage. In the following season Besle came to 28 games and two goals.

For the 2015/16 season Besle returned to France to his former club RC Lens . On August 8, 2015, he made his debut in a 1-1 draw on the second match day against Red Star 93 ; Besle played through. Besle made his last appearance on December 11, 2015 when he was substituted in the 74th minute for Déme N'Diaye in the 1-0 win on matchday 18 against Paris FC . After that he was no longer part of the squad.

At the end of January 2016 Besle went back to Switzerland, this time for FC Aarau . He made 15 appearances and two goals in the second half of the 2015/16 season. In the 2016/17 season, after 13 missions from the beginning of December 2016 until the end of the season, he was out due to a hip injury. After he was not used on the first six match days of the 2017/18 season due to injury, he played up to eight league games and ended his career on December 31, 2017.

After the football career

After the end of his career, Besle became a police officer .
