Philippe Montandon (born July 15, 1982 in Uster ) is a former Swiss football player. He was most recently under contract with FC St. Gallen in the Raiffeisen Super League .
Career
Philippe Montandon began playing football for the FC Brüttisellen youth team in 1987 at the age of five . In 1996 he switched to the offspring of FC Winterthur , for whom he made his debut in the first team in the 1999/2000 season . Montandon soon established himself as a regular player and in 2002 moved to the national league A promoted FC Wil . There he also achieved his greatest success to date with the victory in the 2004 cup final against the Grasshoppers. Nevertheless, FC Wil rose from the Super League at the end of the season.
Montandon then moved to FC St. Gallen , where he became a permanent fixture in the team. When the new coach Ralf Loose stopped betting on him in 2007 , he switched to FC Schaffhausen during the winter break , for which he played for the next one and a half seasons. A move to Italy to Chievo Verona followed . However, he was immediately loaned to FC Lugano for several seasons , where he also took on the captain role. In the fall of 2009, a medical examination at Montanton found testicular cancer . A tumor on the right testicle was then removed.
After Montandon narrowly missed promotion to the Super League several times with Lugano, he switched to relegated FC St. Gallen, with whom he was promoted to the Super League again. There he also took over the captain role of the resigned Daniel Imhof and achieved third place with his team and qualification for the UEFA Europa League .
At the end of the first half of the 2014/15 season, Philippe Montandon announced his retirement from active football. After suffering his 8th concussion with his teammate Marco Mathys during the league game against FC Aarau on August 9, 2014 , he was unable to play any games for FC St. Gallen in the entire first half of the season. Due to complaints during the preparation for the second half of the Super League, Montandon had to end his career.
