Arms sock rug

The poor sock carpet is a work of art by the German artist Hermann Josef Hack , which he made from the socks of the unemployed with the help of over 600 unemployed initiatives from all over Germany in the form of a carpet . On September 27, 1998, Hack put the poor sock carpet in front of the Chancellor candidate Gerhard Schröder's feet in front of his polling station in Hanover. Later, during Schröder's chancellorship, Hack rolled out his carpet in front of the Federal Chancellery at every top-level meeting of the Alliance for Work , to point out that those affected were not involved in the talks. Further campaigns with the poor sock carpet helped both the concerns of those affected and the artist himself to gain more public attention.
