Peta-Gaye Dowdie (born January 18, 1977 in Saint Elizabeth Parish ) is a Jamaican sprinter .
The international breakthrough came for the two-time Jamaican champion in the 100-meter run in 1999 at the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg . There she won the title with the 4 x 100 meter relay and took third place over 100 m. A few weeks later she celebrated the most important success of her career at the World Athletics Championships in Seville . As the final runner, she led the Jamaican 4 x 100 meter relay together with Aleen Bailey , Merlene Frazer and Beverly McDonald to the bronze medal in 42.15 s behind the teams of the Bahamas (41.92 s) and France (42.06 s ). Dowdie started in Seville in the 100-meter run, but was eliminated here in the quarter-finals.
In 2005 she was third in the 200-meter run at the Central American and Caribbean Championships . She achieved further success in the season with victories at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and at the Pan American Games in 2007 in Rio de Janeiro . In Melbourne, she narrowly missed the finals over 100 m as fourth of her semi-final run.
Peta-Gaye Dowdie is 1.70 m tall and has a competition weight of 61 kg. She attended Louisiana State University .
