The settlement of the area around Plattenthal in the office of Wolkenstein continued in the 15th and 16th centuries. Century when tin was found on the banks of the Pöhlbach. As a result, Zinnseiffnereien emerged, z. B. at the "big crack" between Plattenthal and Wiesenbad or at the "Kannelloch" between Plattenthal and Mildenau . In today's Plattenthal, a "Seiffwerk" with mountain buildings and storage areas was built around 1500, which was in operation until around 1590. After that, tin mining took place underground. The Kannelloch Vorwerk was first mentioned in a document in 1542.

After the Thirty Years War , a few smaller pits were built in the Plattenwald on the left bank of the Pöhlbach in Wiesaer Flur. To the right of the Pöhlbach, nine treasure troves developed in the Mildenau area after 1686. In 1687, an ore wash and a five-stamp stamping mill were built in place of the Seiff works. The mines were subordinate to the Mining Authority in Annaberg until 1837. In 1816 the last mining took place at the channel. In 1902 the stamp mill was torn down.

Plattenthal in the corridors of Mildenau and Wiesa was until 1856 in the electoral or royal Saxon office of Selva Val Gardena . From 1856 the place belonged to the court office Annaberg and from 1875 to the official authority Annaberg .

Plattenthal is more recently known for the Plattenthalbahn that used to run through the town . Since 1896 the places Geyersdorf , Königswalde and Mildenau tried to be connected to the Saxon railway network. From 1914, the paper mill in Plattenthal, founded in 1900, had an industrial track connection to the Zschopautalbahn near Wiesenbad . In 1923 the line was extended to the Geyersdorf-Mildenau station and in 1928 it was extended to Königswalde lower station. From 1938 people were also transported on the route. From 1951 the line was gradually closed. In 1951 the train only ran to Geyersdorf-Mildenau, and in 1971 only to Plattenthal. The line from Wiesenbad to Plattenthal was downgraded to a track siding and completely shut down in 1995.

As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Plattenthal came as part of the communities Mildenau and Wiesa (from 1956 to Thermalbad Wiesenbad) in 1952 to the Annaberg district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which from 1990 as Saxon District Annaberg was continued and in 2008 merged into the Erzgebirgskreis.

Industry

Albert Brandt unt. Factory ”and“ VEB Spezialpapierfabrik Precipitation ”. The upper factory was between Plattenthal and Geyersdorf and was later called “Fa. Albert Brandt ob. Factory ”. Today it is the domicile of “Platina Dammbaustoffe Brandt GmbH”. From 1950 the sauerkraut platters known in the GDR were produced in this factory .
