The first documentary mention dates from 1449, the place name is already being written as it is today. Wolfsgrund has been parish to Dorfchemnitz since the Reformation in 1539.

The first records of iron stone pits near Wolfsgrund date from 1439, and there were numerous locations of Kauen . The earliest mining settlements are said to have been near the deer pond on the Chemnitzbach . Small hammer mills with melting furnaces are also said to have existed here.
The place name possibly comes from the melting furnaces used in the 15th century - these were called "Wolfsöfen".

It is noteworthy that hops are mentioned around 1750. In addition to the buddies, Melzer and brewers also lived here. Fruit growing is also mentioned very early, even strawberries are said to have been grown here on specially created plantations.

In 1826 August Schumann mentions Wolfsgrund in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:

“None of the 18 houses in the village is actually a whole farm, but the residents (and almost all of them) have from ⅟₁₆ to ½ hooves of mediocre field, on which they build particularly beautiful flax . Their number is 80 is 85. [...] Below the village are the ruins of the Dorfchemnitz lime kiln, and on the brook [...] you can find Schörl and Magneteisenstein steps, as well as numerous traces of former mining. "
