history
The first documentary mention as Ceten in a loan letter dates from 1324. August Schumann mentions Zethau in 1826 in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony regarding Zethau:
"[...] has around 160 houses, around 1,100 residents, an inheritance court with guest food , butchery, brandy urbar and brewery, 5 grinding mills, 1 board mill and some oil mills, the apartment of a lordly district hunter, 2 blacksmiths and the like. s. w. The corridor is said to have 69 hooves, which are now 3 times as big as in the Lommatzscher care , [...] The farmers are already - especially due to the strong flax cultivation and the butter trade to Dresden - mostly in prosperity, which is also evident in their homesteads often pronounces; 2 farmers have fast or small lime kilns, and lime spreading on the fields is very popular; they like to bring the material down to sledges from Hermsdorf . [...] Mining is not currently practiced in Zethau, but in 1738 the new blessing of God was still going on. "
Based on a document and the bells from 1471 and 1485, it can be assumed that a church and an independent parish already existed in 1484. The first church building is presumed to be a small building at the current location, as a sketch of the same suggests. After lightning strikes in 1665 and 1713, the building was so dilapidated that a new building was sought. The foundation stone was laid on April 26, 1728, and the tower was completed on September 3, 1729. Around Easter 1735, the old church was demolished, and at the end of August of the same year the shell of the successor building was already in place. On November 19, 1736, the "Elisabeth Church - Church of God's Holy Rest" was consecrated. She got the name from Elisabeth von Schönberg, who donated the baptismal font among other things. The pulpit altar is a foundation of the then liege judge Jonas Walter. In 1845 the building underwent various renovations as well as gilding on the altar, pulpit and organ. On June 2, 1896, the bells were removed due to disharmony and replaced by a new one on August 13 of the same year. In 1917 and again in 1942 bells were removed for war purposes. The baroque style building is max. 37 meters high, 35.5 meters long and max. 12 meters wide. The organ from 1788 comes from Adam Gottfried Oehme . Before that, the church owned a smaller instrument that was built in 1670 by Gottfried Richter from Döbeln .
On January 1, 1994, Zethau was incorporated into Mulda.
