history
Around 1385 a warm spring was discovered during mining activities (ore prospecting). In 1484 it was first mentioned as Warmbate zu Wulkenstein, from the warm bath . The place belonged to rule or later to the office of Wolkenstein .
Until 1542 the bath was in stately ownership - at the beginning in that of Waldenburg, later in the state -, afterwards it was privately owned, which was followed by expansion and increasing use. In 1554 it was acquired by the mountain jury Paul Hauschka. In 1656 it was taken over by the body medic August Hauptmann , who later published the text Uralter Wolkensteinischer Warm Bad- und Wasserschatz , and the bailiff Heinrich Schrey. In 1671, Princess Magdalena Sibylla von Sachsen-Weißenfels used the bath for a cure. For this a new bath house was built, which Elector Johann Georg III. inaugurated and gave him the name "at the grace of God", which lasted only a relatively short time. In 1791 the spring was recaptured, cleaned and the water examined. A pavilion was also built in honor of the Saxon Queen Marie Amalie Auguste , who stayed here for cure in 1791/92. The spring water was fed to this pavilion via a tunnel . In 1794 the Grünhain bailiff Christian August Gottschald took over the facilities. In 1810, the Großrückerswalde Erbrichter Johann Christoph Uhlig came into their possession and bequeathed them to his son, who made improvements for the guests according to the requirements and the frequentation.
In earlier times, the spring water was lifted by means of artificial tools , which were driven by a grinding and cutting mill above the Hilmersdorfer Bach.
The spring was placed under protection in 1660 by a decree by Elector Johann Georg II . Under the name Medicinal-Trunk , beer was brewed with the spring water from 1661 to 1872, and a distillery was also part of the facilities for a time. From 1831 onwards, doctors looked after the spa guests and bathers. In the period that followed, further guest houses were built in Warmbad, and from 1880 a visitor's tax was payable.
With the construction of the Zschopautalbahn in 1889, Warmbad received a rail connection with the “Floßplatz” stop. In 1904 this was given the name “Floßplatz-Warmbad”, and since 1960 the station name has been “Warmbad”.
In 1903 its own power station was built, which was in operation until 1920. A central sewerage system was built in 1914. In 1924 an outdoor pool was opened that was fed with thermal water. In 1926 the city of Selva bought the bath in order to keep it open to the public.
Between 1997 and 2002 the entire spa infrastructure was modernized or rebuilt, and in 1997 a rehabilitation clinic of the Federal Miners' Union was inaugurated. The Silber-Therme is available for day guests.
Since December 1997, Warmbad, as the first designated health resort in Saxony, had been designated as a “place with mineral springs”. In September 2016, Warmbad was awarded the status of a spa by the Free State of Saxony - after approval by the Saxon State Advisory Council for Health Resorts and Recreation Centers .

additional
A chapel is said to have existed between Warmbad and Gehringswalde, which is said to have been built during the development of the warm spring.
August Schumann mentions this in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1826:
“At some distance from the spring, a Chapel of Mary was built very early on, and it was just as far from the city as, according to the pilgrims' reports, Jesus had to walk from Pilate's house to Golgotha. This church stood at the height between the Bade and Geringswalde, was handsome, vaulted, and endowed with 7 additional parish villages; One always used to hear mass there before bathing; There were several inns at the same, and traces of it and the cellars that flowed there are still visible.
