Magdalena Sibylla von Sachsen-Weißenfels (born September 2, 1648 in Halle , † January 7, 1681 in Gotha ) was a born princess of Sachsen-Weißenfels and -Querfurt from the house of the Albertine Wettins and by marriage Duchess of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg .

family

Magdalena Sibylla was the eldest daughter of Duke August von Sachsen-Weißenfels and his wife Anna Maria von Mecklenburg-Schwerin , daughter of Duke Adolf Friedrich I. von Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

She is named after her paternal grandmother, the Saxon Electress Magdalena Sibylle of Prussia .

Life

In 1669 she married the Hereditary Prince Friedrich von Sachsen-Gotha , who ruled from 1672 as governor of his father in Altenburg and from 1674 as prince regent and from 1675 as duke all of Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg.

Magdalena Sibylla died at the age of 32 and was buried in the princely crypt of the castle church on the Gotha Peace Stone.

Marriage and offspring

Her only marriage was on November 14, 1669 in Halle with Friedrich I, Duke of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg , the son of Ernst I, Duke of Saxe-Gotha from his marriage to Elisabeth Sophia of Saxe-Altenburg .

She had the following children with her husband:

Through her descendants, she is both ancestor of Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert .
