Princess Friederike von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg (* March 24, 1675 in Gotha ; † May 28, 1709 in Karlsbad ), came from the family of the Ernestine - Wettin branch line Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg and was Princess of Anhalt-Zerbst by marriage .

Life

Friederike was a daughter of Duke Friedrich I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1646–1691) and his wife Magdalena Sibylle (1648–1681), daughter of Duke August of Saxe-Weissenfels .

After the death of her father in 1691, Friederike lived with her stepmother Christine (1645–1705) at their widow's residence at Altenburg Castle . After her brother Friedrich II was declared of legal age in 1693 and took over the regency, he brought his sister Friederike back to the court in Gotha, who supported him in government work until they got married.

On 25 May 1702 she married in Zerbst who later became Prince Johann August of Anhalt-Zerbst (1677-1742). She was also an important advisor to her husband, who named her Friederikenberg in honor of the pleasure palace built near Badetz since 1704 . The apparently happy marriage ended after seven years with the death of Friederike, who had given birth to no children for her husband.
