Main gate of the pleasure palace

Friederikenberg is a former pleasure palace on the Hüttenberg near Badetz between Tochheim and Steckby from the time of the Principality of Anhalt-Zerbst . Today only the former main gate stands directly on the Elbe Cycle Path , while the former castle hill and the remains of the former garden planting are difficult to see.

history

The Friederikenberg pleasure palace was built by Johann August (1677–1742), probably based on a design by Giovanni Simonetti , at his own expense. In honor of his wife Friederike von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg (1675–1709) it was named Friederikenberg . After her death, construction work was largely stopped in 1709.

In the years 1725/26 the castle was expanded by the Zerbst master builder Johann Christoph Schütze . The castle could not be completed until 1741. After Johann August's death in 1742, a bar was opened in 1751. After the end of the Princely House of Anhalt-Zerbst in 1793, the new owner was not interested in the complex. When the castle was to be demolished in 1832, citizens of Zerbst asked for it to be preserved as a destination. The subsequent donation to the city of Zerbst on June 17, 1832 was canceled in 1833 due to the high costs. The buildings were demolished, the pleasure garden overgrown.
