Ingeborg Weigand

Ingeborg Weigand (born February 10, 1920 in Hanover , † 1995 in Schwifting ) was a German painter and an author who publishes under the name Franziska Sellwig .

Life

Weigand spent her youth in Düsseldorf and attended the local lyceum. In Krefeld she attended the textile and weaving school, then switched to a painting and drawing school in Düsseldorf. During the Nazi era , her father was arrested by the Secret State Police as an opponent of the regime and taken to the Esterwegen concentration camp . As a result, she had to interrupt her training. Towards the end of the war, the painter moved to Munich , where she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts . Exhibitions in various European cities followed. In 1967 she started teaching at an art school in Munich until she founded her own painting and drawing school for women in 1972.

After her father committed suicide , she began to write. Their first publication was the prose volume Orangen auf dem Gefännishof . Hilde Domin reviewed the work with the words: “An anti-fascist youth during the Hitler era was also experienced by others, but to convey it in such a great way, that is noticeable. It is a very unusual book! ”. Elfriede Jelinek described her as “a great narrator.” She subsequently published the volume of poetry Ich bin ein Negerin, weiß , the prose volume Der Graben , the volumes of poetry Die with the long coats , Winterfeuer , the collection of short stories thunderstorms and numerous publications in anthologies and radio broadcasts . Ingeborg Weigand lived with the poet Rodja Weigand near Landsberg / Lech for thirty years until she died in 1995. The New City Museum Landsberg organized a memorial exhibition.
