Dietrich Wagler

Dietrich Wagler (* 1940 in Mildenau ) is a German organist .

Life

Dietrich Wagler comes from the Ore Mountains and attended church music schools in Dresden and Halle (Saale) as well as the Liszt School of Music Weimar . In 1974 he received first prize in the improvisation competition of the "Thuringian Bachtage 1974".

From 1976 to 1986 he was cantor and organist at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. George in Glauchau . He then moved to the cathedral in the mountain town of Freiberg , where he also worked as church music director. In both churches he played the Silbermann organs there . Several of his organ concerts have been broadcast on radio and television and have appeared on CD.

In addition to this professional activity, Dietrich Wagler taught improvisation and artistic organ playing at the church music school in Halle from 1982 to 1985. In 1986 he switched to the church music school (from 1992 University for Church Music) Dresden as a lecturer for organ and improvisation.

Wagler was president of the Gottfried-Silbermann-Gesellschaft eV from November 1996 to 2009 and from September 1999 to 2011 artistic director of Freiberg in the ECHO network (association of European cities with historical organs).

On September 18, 2011, he was awarded the Freiberg Medal of Honor.
