life and work

Oskar Puschmann, who comes from a mining family based in Johanngeorgenstadt, became a master builder in his hometown after completing his training. There he shaped the townscape with many of the buildings he planned after the great fire of 1867. Among other things, he was responsible for the construction of the new town hall on the market square of Johanngeorgenstadt (1869–1870, demolished in 1955). In the neighboring Breitenbrunn / Erzgeb. he was the builder of today's Haus des Gastes (1878–1880).

Puschmann achieved national fame, among other things, as the builder of the first massive mountain house on the Fichtelberg (Ore Mountains) . The laying of the foundation stone was celebrated on July 7th, 1888 in the presence of the chairman of the Erzgebirgsverein , Ernst Köhler , and the senior teacher Hermann Möckel . Harnesses from Johanngeorgenstadt drove numerous granite stones from young stallions up the long distance to the 1214 m high mountain, the summit of which at that time was still in a pretty wilderness. Therefore Puschmann had a stick dam built from Gottesgab via the New House to the Fichtelberg. The polishing Pusch's Brutus Fleischmann from Oberwiesenthal , took over as the first mountain host the management of the initiated on July 1, 1889 Fichtelberg house.

As the highlight of his career, Oskar Puschmann built his own hotel near the Johanngeorgenstadt train station, which was opened on May 25, 1901 under the name Henriettenhof and whose lounge at that time offered space for 200 people. Almost five years after the hotel opened, Puschmann passed away through suicide .
