Eugen Holtzmann (born April 26, 1848 in Karlsruhe , † October 30, 1901 in Weisenbachfabrik ; full name: Eugen Ludwig Holtzmann ) was a German entrepreneur and national liberal politician. He was the founder of the Murgtäler company E. Holtzmann & Cie. and longstanding member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Eugen Holtzmann was born in Karlsruhe in 1848 as the son of a bookseller. After the untimely death of his parents, he dropped out of school and began a commercial apprenticeship at the age of 16. After attending the Lyceum in Karlsruhe, he studied law in Freiburg , where he became a member of the Teutonia fraternity in 1867 . He did his military service as a second lieutenant in the Landwehr Regiment 96 and took part in the Franco-German War . At the age of 20 he took up a position at the Kübler & Niethammer wood pulp factory in Breitenhof (Saxony). Four years later he married the factory owner's widow Natalie widowed Kübler geb. Niethammer, sister of the co-owner Albert Niethammer , and the factory was taken over under his own name.

From 1874 he was a member of the district assembly and the district committee of the Schwarzenberg administration . From 1877 to 1893 he was a member of the Reichstag as a representative of the 21st Saxon constituency. In 1882, Holtzmann became aware of the Murg Valley and its development opportunities through his colleague Gottlieb Klumpp . As a result, on May 1, 1883, Eugen Holtzmann, August Fischer and Johannes Dorn founded E. Holtzmann & Cie. oHG . In 1886 Eugen Holtzmann took over the management .

On May 3, 1890, he was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the Verband Deutscher Druckfabrikfabrikanten GmbH by representatives of 24 German paper mills in the capital of Berlin .

Holtzmann was awarded the honorary title of Commercial Councilor for his services .

Eugen Holtzmann died on October 30, 1901 at the age of 53 in the Weisenbachfabrik.
