The al-Mustansiriyya University ( Arabic الجامعة المستنصرية, DMG al-Ǧāmiʿa al-Mustanṣirīya ) is a university in Baghdad that goes back to the Abbasid caliph al-Mustansir (r. 1226–1242) .

The historical university was founded in 1233 as a scientific university , and is seen as one of the oldest universities in the world. To this day it is one of the most important educational institutions in Iraq . It was re-established as a university in 1963 by the Teachers' Association of the Republic of Iraq. In 1964 the college was merged with Al-Sha'b University and became part of the University of Baghdad. Later it was granted private university status, but it was nationalized again in 1974. It belongs to the network of six universities in Baghdad. Primarily law and literature are taught .

Al-Mustansiriyya University is located near the Schuhada 'Bridge on the Rusafa side of the city with a view of the Tigris , behind the building of the Ministry of Defense. The situation is classified as dangerous. On January 16, 2007 , at least 65 people were killed and 140 injured in an attack in front of Al Mustansiriyya University.
