The Eichert together with the Heidelsberg a flat mountain range south of the center of Aue . The Eichert reaches a height of 564 meters, making it the highest point in the city. It consists of the hard material andalusite mica rock . At the same time, parts of this ridge have been built on since 1920 and are part of the Eichert district of the Aue district of the large district town of Aue-Bad Schlema, which was newly formed in January 2019 .

The Eichert mountain

Remarkable on this area is the Rote Kamm , a quartz-iron stone fault that extends far into the Ore Mountains and is greened. The northern area of the mountain is built up, the southwestern area is forested.

For centuries the road to Bockau, called the Alter Erzengelweg , ran across the Eichert . It was not until 1910 that today's Bockauer Strasse was laid out and traffic leads around the mountain.

Residential development from 1920

In 1920 the city of Aue bought the Eichert from the property of the Lauterer Staatsforstes . This made new space available to alleviate the housing shortage (at that time there were around 1,500 people looking for accommodation in the city). From 1920, the municipal building company, a non-profit building association, a craftsmen's building cooperative and the housing cooperative 'Eigen Scholle' built a row house settlement on the Eichert , which was named Waldsiedlung Am Eichert ; new roads such as the forest road were also created. In 1928, 1,800 people lived in this settlement ( Oberer Eichert ). By 1930 1,101 apartments had been completed. A homeless shelter was built on the Eichert in 1929, offering 21 apartments for needy families. This building (Am Eichert 30) was converted into an after-work home during the Nazi era, and into an old people's home during the GDR era .

After the war, mainly recruited miners moved into residential buildings on the Eichert to mine uranium ore. Soon, however, the shopping opportunities for everyday goods were no longer sufficient, so the Wismut trading company came up with a remedy with a mobile shopping facility and a kiosk; however, a new building was urgently required. - The Bau- und Montagekombinat (BMK) has now built, based on a model building like the one in Hoyerswerda an der Straße, an ultramodern food sales facility for the time, which even had a water basin for live fish. The department store opened on January 19, 1965. In an article in the newspaper Neues Erzgebirge it said: “A long-awaited wish of the Eichert residents has been fulfilled with this new sales point. In this newly built, very modern and well-arranged sales point, which meets all requirements, the residents of the Eichert district can buy whatever their heart desires. - Not only groceries, vegetables, fruit and soap products, but also fresh fish, meat and sausage products as well as confectionery products are available in a large selection, so that working women can now buy everything in one shop. ”Some structural and location deficiencies were corrected in the following years and so there was this possibility of shopping until the fall of the Berlin Wall , until the bismuth was liquidated .

Eichert from 1990

In 2000 the city administration had the retirement home extensively renovated and structurally expanded. In order to preserve the building character, the council meeting passed a conservation statute around 2002 with a precise site plan of the buildings. Until 2011 there was the Eichertschänke restaurant in the residential area at 20 Am Eichert, which was initially a Bulgarian and then a Chinese restaurant after the fall of the Wall. Eventually it had to close due to bankruptcy of the owner and operator. A buyer was sought for the Kiez restaurant by foreclosure auction and was not found until 2012, but a fire destroyed the interior. The bar in the basement, with the unofficial name Geisterbar remained undamaged, opens its premises regularly to the scene-goers.

The conservation statute was followed by resolutions of the city administration in 2013, which provide for the following: “Demolition of worn and permanently vacant buildings and the adaptation of the housing stock. Of course, this should be done taking urban planning issues into account. The concept also includes the improvement, redesign, reuse and upgrading of open spaces. The supply function of the residential area is of particular importance in the urban planning concept. "For the Eichertschänke, it is said:" As part of a future use concept for the existing building, a district center / meeting center with various local supply facilities serving to supply the area could be created on the ground floor (e.g. consumption, post office, butcher / bakery, etc.). The upper floors of the building could be used as apartments or as a guesthouse. Since the building belongs to the ILE (= Integrated Rural Development ) promotional area, part of the financing could possibly be realized through appropriate grants. ”Since all attempts to continue operating the food hall had failed, considerations arose as to how the location could be used for other purposes can. "... It would be suitable for creating additional parking spaces, which would also improve the general parking situation, because the chances of finding an investor [...] are currently expected to be low." In May 2019 the city administration has now announced that the department store will be completely demolished.

Further plans concern the improvement of the local supply in existing buildings or the opening of a neighborhood shop . Ultimately, the ideas are going to set up a “small marketplace with the participation of efficient wholesalers from Aue”.

A newly designed multi-generation playground was officially inaugurated on the Langwiese on the Eichert on March 24, 2014. It is equipped with benches, conventional play equipment for children and adolescents, as well as equipment for adults to improve mobility and coordination (shoulder trainers, walkers and massagers for the back, as well as hands, arms and legs). The city administration has invested around 30,000 euros for the first such place in Aue. Around 85 percent of the amount came from the ILE program of the EU and the Free State of Saxony.

The Villa Kunterbunt daycare center is located on Straße der Freunds . The children's groups take part in the biennial House of Little Researchers competition and were able to win this plaque for the first time in 2017. In March 2019 they successfully defended their title, the children had dealt intensively with the topic of garbage (including avoidance, recycling).

Unterer Eichert residential area and allotments

In 1964, construction began on the lower foothills of the mountain (on Unteren Eichert ) with simple residential buildings: four-storey prefabricated buildings with 370 apartments, followed by other typical eleven-storey concrete slab buildings by 1981. These do not blend in particularly well with the cityscape, but they offer the residents the standard of living standard at the time with central heating, warm water - and a good view.

On the steep flanks of the Eichert, which slopes down towards Auerhammer, the allotment garden Am Eichert was created in the 1920s on the initiative of a naturopathic association, each with about 300 m² of plots, which is still used as a garden in the 21st century and the allotment garden association Aue Eichert 1 eV belongs.

In the lower Eichert, an industrial area developed in the late 1990s ( An der Bockauer Talstraße ), in which 14 companies are now based. On May 11, 2019, they will all hold a joint spring festival in the industrial park together with the city administration for the first time , where they will present their products, services, training and career opportunities. A car dealership has also launched a competition for visitor children entitled What does the coolest car of the future look like? .
