Johann Heinrich Conrad Querfurth

Johann Heinrich Conrad Querfurth (born April 23, 1747 in Tanne ; † January 26, 1817 in Annaberg ) was a merchant, senator and mayor of the city of Annaberg.

Life

Johann Heinrich Conrad Querfurth was born as the son of the master baker Andreas Querfurth in Tanne. Querfurth attended elementary school here and was confirmed in 1761 .

In 1771 Querfurth went to Annaberg in the Ore Mountains . There he initially worked as a merchant and merchant. He married Christiane Hiebner on June 8, 1776 and in 1779 their son Karl Querfurth was born. In 1783 he was elected to the city council as councilor and senator. From 1787 he was finally mayor. In 1790 Querfurth bought the official Förstel estate near Langenberg . Under him the whole estate was gradually rebuilt. From 1793 to 1814 several agricultural buildings were built and the manor house was inaugurated in 1807.

On September 22, 1813, Heinrich Querfurth was raised to the hereditary nobility together with his son and received the title "Edler von Querfurth".

Querfurth was mayor of Annaberg until 1817 and died there on January 26, 1817 after a long illness.

Others

Querfurth did not let the connection to his hometown Tanne be severed. In 1799 he donated a new organ for the Tanner Church and also had the church bell that cracked in 1781 cast over. A cast iron plaque reminds of this to this day. Querfurth showed great social commitment and founded the “Society for Advice and Action” in Annaberg, an institution for nursing and poor relief.
