Christian Pentzold (* 1981 ) is a German communication and media scientist .

Life

After graduating from the Bertolt-Brecht-Gymnasium in Schwarzenberg / Erzgeb. Pentzold studied communication and media science at the TU Chemnitz and at the University of Stirling . He published his master's thesis in 2007 under the title Wikipedia: Discussion Room and Information Storage in the New Network. He then conducted research at the Oxford Internet Institute, the University of Oxford and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University . Pentzold was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 2013 he received his doctorate after submitting his dissertation with the title The practice of online cooperation: Practices and institutions of online media cooperation at the TU Chemnitz. In 2015 his doctoral thesis was published as a book entitled Collaboration on the Net: Practices and Institutions of Internet-Based Cooperation .

From 2016 to 2019, Pentzold was junior professor for communication and media studies with a focus on media society at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research at the University of Bremen . In 2017, the University of Trier completed his habilitation on the topic of Transmedia Discourses: Conditions, Analytical Framework, and Case Studies. Since August 2019 he has been Professor of Communication and Media Studies at the TU Chemnitz ( W2 professorship ). In 2020 he accepted a professorship from the University of Leipzig for the W3 professorship for media and communication studies.

Among other things, Pentzold works on the topic of common knowledge construction , for example in Wikipedia .
