Passive relay point 11C4 Suhl / Steinsburg

The C-tower was a passive relay point for radio links in the directional radio network of the SED .

description

So-called “C towers” were used in the SED's directional radio network as passive relay points between the A and B towers and the users' directional radio terminals. C towers were standardized reuse projects with a height of 25 meters. The C towers were built in the late 1950s and early 1960s as part of the construction of the SED directional radio network on behalf of Fundament GmbH, the construction company of the SED. A total of nine identical towers were built on the territory of the GDR , three of which still existed in 2019. At the top of the towers was a 4 m × 4 m metal reflector, which reflected the incoming radio link - obeying the laws of reflection - to the target. Some C-towers were special constructions. The reflectors were mounted on high-rise buildings or on steel lattice masts.
