history
The first settlers in Mühlau originally came from Mehlem near Bonn on the Rhine and they were brought into the country by the Zschillen monastery . The place name Mühlau is derived from the former hometown. In 1346 Mühlau was first mentioned as flour .
In terms of political administration, the Waldhufendorf was divided into a Wettin and a Schönburg part until the 19th century . The Wettin share of Mühlau belonged regarding the basic rule for manor Mittelfrohna whose possession again as exclave to Saxon or Royal Saxon Office Rochlitz belonged. The portion belonging to the Schönburg rulers was again divided into three parts with regard to the administration and was also under the Saxon-Wettin sovereignty. One part belonged as an official village to the Schönburg feudal lordship Penig , another was subject to the inheritance jurisdiction of the Schönburg feudal lordship Rochsburg . The third part of Mühlau, which was under the Schönburg suzerainty, formed its own patrimonial court to which the Mühlau subjects of the manor Callenberg were subordinate. Since the manor Callenberg as a vassal court was under the administration of the Schönburg rule of Waldenburg , the patrimonial court of Mühlau was also subordinate to the Rent Office in Waldenburg . The administration of this Dingstuhl Mühlau was again taken over by the bailiff of the Schönburg feudal lordship Penig . With regard to the jurisdiction, the Dingstuhl Mühlau belonged to the Remse Justice Office .
In 1836 the management of the Dingstuhl Mühlau was handed over to the royal Saxon office of Rochlitz. As early as 1835, with the rule of Penig, the Peniger portion of Mühlau was assigned to the Rochlitz office.
From 1856 Mühlau belonged in its entirety to the Penig court office and from 1875 to the Rochlitz administration . By the second district reform in East Germany Mühlau came in 1952 for county Chemnitz-Land in the district Chemnitz (1953 in county Karl-Marx-Stadt-Land and District Karl-Marx-Stadt renamed), which from 1990 Saxon district Chemnitz was continued . When it was dissolved, the municipality of Mühlau became part of the Mittweida district in 1994 , which was added to the central Saxony district in 2008.
