geography

The community is located about 10 km west of Mittweida and about 25 km north of Chemnitz . The Chemnitz Valley is to the west of the municipality . The nature reserve Sandberg Wiederau and Klinkholz is located in the municipality .

Neighboring communities are Altmittweida , Claußnitz , the cities of Burgstädt , Lunzenau and Mittweida as well as Seelitz and Wechselburg . All surrounding regional authorities are also located in the district of central Saxony.

history

In 1168, Count Dedo von Rochlitz-Groitzsch founded the Zschillen Monastery . This brings Thuringian settlers into the area to cultivate the surrounding areas. So the districts of the municipality in the 12th / 13th Century laid out as Waldhufendörfer . Wiederau is mentioned in 1174 and Topfseifersdorf as Sifridersdorf in 1208 in a document from the Zschillen monastery as Wiedera . Stein, although certainly older, was first mentioned in 1489.

Until the Reformation , the places belonged to the Zschillen monastery. After the secularization the area from 1543 and belonged to the family of Schoenburg , domination Wechselburg . The area was shaped by agriculture and small-scale crafts. Agate is also mined near Wiederau and there were several quarries near Stein. On January 1, 1994, the formerly independent towns of Königshain, Wiederau and Topfseifersdorf were combined to form the municipality of Königshain-Wiederau. On January 1, 1999, the village of Stein in the Chemnitz Valley was added.

Transport links

The federal road 107 and the state road 247 run through the community. The federal motorway 4 can be reached via the Chemnitz-Glösa connection approx. 17 km. The Via Porphyria and the Luther Trail Saxony run through the community . Between 1902 and 1998, Stein in the Chemnitz Valley had a stop on the Wechselburg – Küchwald railway line (Chemnitz Valley Railway ), which was closed in 2001 .

  • Paul Fleming (1609–1640), German doctor and writer, lived between 1616 and 1628 in the parsonage in Topfseifersdorf
