First documented mention, other guaranteed place name forms
In 1233 a Heinricus de Ceteliz is mentioned in a document, which is the first indirect documentary evidence of a community of this name. It is unclear whether the document refers to Zettlitz near Rochlitz or Zedtlitz near Borna. Czetelicz, first mentioned in 1350, certainly means today's Zettlitz. The village name is altsorbischer origin and means village of CETel ... .
Other spellings of the place name mentioned in documents are:

- 1400, 1445, 1447 Czetlicz
