Helena Dorothea von Schönberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helena Dorothea von Schönberg , b. von Wallwitz (born November 22, 1729 in Schweikershain ; † March 29, 1799 in Limbach ) was the owner of a manor in Limbach near Chemnitz .

With foresight she recognized the economic and social opportunities of the knitting technology introduced by Johann Esche in Saxony . Under their direction and support, the first stocking- knitting settlements in Saxony (probably also Germany), the Helenenstrasse and Dorotheenstrasse in Limbach (today Limbach-Oberfrohna ), were built. In the upper part of Helenenstrasse and Dorotheenstrasse, some of the original buildings can still be seen. The development of the then small village of Limbach was made possible because it obtained the right to trade guilds (1785) and market rights (1795) from the Saxon elector. Both were unusual for a village in the vicinity of influential cities ( Chemnitz , Zwickau ).
