Residential stable house, side building and barn of a four-sided courtyard At station 9
(map)
re. 1876 Closed preserved farm with buildings typical of the landscape in good original condition with a simple residential stable house of importance for the history of the building and the townscape.

The Waldhufendorf Erlau has been preserved in the main features of the original local design and is still characterized by a few large farms. Vierseithof is located in the outskirts, the special effect of which results from its location on the railway line on the one hand and the village street that leads past the residential stable and outbuildings on the other. The view of the courtyard ensemble, which has been preserved closed, from the road that climbs within the curve and is led over the railway does not play an insignificant role. Of the buildings, the residential stable house facing the street, the barn, the outbuilding and the courtyard design with preserved paving attract historic preservation interest. The fourth building, which is also used for residential purposes, has not yet been listed as an individual monument in the list of cultural monuments of the Free State of Saxony due to the extensive changes - it is, however, an indispensable part of the closed courtyard ensemble and is subject to the provisions of environmental protection in the event of intended structural changes. The two-storey stable house has a massive ground floor, mainly consisting of quarry stone masonry. On the upper floor, the half-timbered construction was closed with clay pegs, both gables and the rear eaves side are slated above the first floor. The courtyard side is half-timbered. One of the original windows with three of the original glass panes has been preserved in one gable. Hilbersdorfer Porphyrtuff was used to frame the stable windows and the front door portal. The lintel indicates the owner of the building with the inscription "CA Schille" and the year of construction with "1876". Without further building research, it cannot be clarified to what extent older parts of the building may have been included in the new building. Inside, reference may be made to the flat, arched floor of the cellar as well as the large slate floor. Under the more recent roofing there is a single standing roof truss. The stable is provided with Prussian caps. The outbuilding is likely to have been built at the same time as the residential stable house, above the ground floor, which is made of quarry stone (door frame and stable window walls are made of porphyry tufa), there is a half-timbered construction, filled with clay, visible on the eaves. The gables are slated. The partition walls on the upper floor are also half-timbered constructions filled with clay. The windows on the upper floor are original (some with sliding windows). The barn, which was presumably built in the 17th century, is not only the oldest building in the four-sided courtyard, as a loam-filled post structure over a quarry stone base, but is also one of the oldest farm buildings in Erlau. Especially the beam construction with its foliage indicates the old age of the barn. A dendrochronological examination would be desirable for a more precise age assessment. The left part of the barn is a later extension. A barrel-vaulted cellar should also be mentioned. Attention should also be drawn to the paving that complements and characterizes the context of the homestead. In its cohesion and typical landscape shape, the complex is an impressive and vivid testimony to the rural way of building and living in Erlau. The scientific and documentary value of the farm is emphasized by the barn construction, which is one of the oldest buildings in both the village and the The surrounding area. The value of the individual courtyards is increased by the preservation of the village of Erlau in its old structure, in which the property makes a not insignificant contribution to the townscape due to its peripheral location. Four-sided courtyards, which are closed and largely preserved in the image of the 19th century, are becoming increasingly rare in the Mittweida district as well. The preservation of these complexes, which are important for the Saxon cultural landscape, is imperative. (LfD / 1998).

  • Barn: frame construction, half-timbered all clay infills, oldest parts with crossed foot and head struts, leafed wood connections, gable slightly protruding, also leafed head struts, boarded up, original roof, half-hipped roof, around 1800 2nd construction phase, changes to the framework, partial cellar , left part later, base of quarry stone masonry, should be examined dendrochronologically, possibly 17th century
  • Side building: Exodus house, at the same time as the stable house around 1800, half-timbered upper floor with clay infills, solid ground floor (quarry stone masonry), garage fittings, a porphyry tuff door portal, hipped roof, gable slated, original windows with sliding windows, between the hayloft and the exodus apartment, massive fire gable, obviously traditional construction
  • Residential stable house: very simple, half-timbered upper floor with clay infills, Prussian caps, corner struts, after 1800, saddle roof, cellar with flat vaults and slabs, solid ground floor (brick), porphyry door portal at the stable, front door portal labeled "18 CASchille 76", single standing chair, two Gable slated on top, rubble stone foundation, house important as part of the building ensemble, the other buildings in good original condition.

Eastern former residential stable of a four-sided courtyard, later house for migrants Rochlitzer Strasse 46
(map)
around 1800 Typical landscape farmhouse in good original condition with partially preserved half-timbering on the ground floor, important for the townscape, of architectural significance.

Impressive stable house from the early 19th or late 18th century with a massive ground floor and half-timbered upper floor, partially slated. Even in the area of the living room, the original half-timbering was preserved. Instead of a block room, the Rochlitz nursing home also features half-timbered structures in the living room area on the ground floor. Garage installations were made on the ground floor, but these did not result in any serious structural changes. The house is closed by a very steep gable roof. Inside there is a simple wooden ceiling in the living room. Due to the location next to the church and the authenticity of the building, it has a significant impact on the townscape. At the same time, it impressively depicts the rural building trade and the living conditions at the time it was built, which makes the building significant in terms of building and social history

Southern stable house (former Bleiche) and western barn of a four-sided courtyard Rochlitzer Strasse 56
(map)
probably 1813 Typical landscape, well designed farmhouse in good original condition, remarkable barn in half-timbered construction, of importance in terms of architectural history and the appearance of the town.

Residential stable house probably built in 1813, date on a fence post. The construction of the house also suggests this. The ground floor is massive and has window openings that are too large. The door portal was provided with horizontal beams. The half-timbering on the upper floor is structured regularly, one gable is massive. The framework has partly short tapped foot and head struts. The stable house is completed by a mansard roof with half a fore. Both in the design of the roof and the design of the gable and the framework, this building deviates from the construction method customary around 1800. It is possible that these special features point to structural changes around 1900 that gave the building a unique, architecturally sophisticated design. The barn standing at an angle to the stable house has a half-timbered structure with struts, original gate and window openings and a high hip roof covered with pans. Cubature, design and the dominant location of the two buildings shape the townscape. The authentic design and, at the same time, special training establish a significance in terms of building history.

Saxon postal mile pillars (totality): Post mile pillar Rochlitzer Strasse 57 (in front)
(map)
re. 1722, copy Copy of a full-mile column, important in terms of traffic history.

Copy of a full-mile column (remnant piece of Rochlitz porphyry, new base), row number 4, originally set up on the old post road Rochlitz – Mittweida in the Gepülziger forest. The Rochlitzer Porphyrtuff column shows the year 1722 and the post horn mark on both sides. On the left side is the inscription "Mittweyda 1 St. 1/2" and on the right side the inscription "Rochlitz 2 St. 1/2" is carved. The pillar was used for purposes other than intended in 1908, rediscovered in 1959 and re-erected in 1979 at a new location with a new base. A replica of the pillar is on the fire station. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679 - 1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system

The ground floor of the house was structurally simplified, although some window frames from around 1800 made of Rochlitz porphyry tufa have been preserved. This building is completed by a steep gable roof. The property includes a stable building with quarry stone ground floor and a half-timbered upper floor with leafed head braces and one transom. This building, which was built around 1700, is also closed off by a steep gable roof. Due to the authentic existing structure, both buildings acquire architectural significance.

Totality of Royal Saxon triangulation (European degree measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony); Station 99 Erlau: triangulation column Steinberg
(map)
re. 1869 (triangulation column) Second order station, significant testimony to geodesy of the 19th century, of significance in terms of surveying history.

Surveying stone made of Niederbobritz granite, without cover plate, rectangular block with the inscription: “Station / Erlau / der / Kön: Sächs: /der/Triangulirung/1869./D”. When the station was set up near a single pine tree on the Steinberg hill, there was still no quarry. The property was owned by a widow from Erlau, who bought a small area for the construction of the station. A quarry is only shown in the Mes table sheet published in 1913. In this granulite rock was extracted as a building material. The survey point had to be dismantled because of the expansion of the quarry. The entry pillar i. Moved in 1935 and the approximate new coordinates recorded show a new location only about 16 m away. The column still stands there today. It appears very low, and has probably been founded more deeply at the new location. The granite, which was once very black weathered, has been cleaned and the column restored in recent years. However, the cover protecting the measurement marks in the head of the column has been lost. After the quarry work was finished, a beautiful biotope has formed at the highest point in Erlau. The quarry is surrounded by deciduous trees and bushes. As a further landmark, a “shire oak” is already drawn in on the first sheet of the measuring table. In the period from 1862 to 1890, a land survey was carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony, in which two triangular networks were formed. On the one hand, there is the network for grade measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony (network I. class / order) with 36 points and the royal Saxon triangulation (network II. Class / order) with 122 points. This national survey was led by Prof. Christian August Nagel, according to which the triangulation columns are also referred to as "Nagelsche columns". This surveying system was one of the most modern layer networks in Germany. The surveying columns set for this purpose remained almost entirely in their original locations. They are an impressive testimony to the history of land surveying in Germany and in Saxony. The system of surveying columns of both orders is in its entirety a cultural monument of supraregional importance.
