Eppendorf station; Narrow-gauge railway Hetzdorf – Eppendorf – Großwaltersdorf: station building with goods handling, auxiliary building and locomotive shed of Eppendorf station Bahnhofstrasse 2a; 4
(card)
Opened in 1893 originally part of the narrow-gauge railway Hetzdorf – Eppendorf – Großwaltersdorf , opened in 1893, clinker buildings typical of the time, of architectural, local and railway historical significance.

On the Hetzdorf – Eppendorf – Großwaltersdorf line, a narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 750 mm ran. Starting in Hetzdorf on the Reitzenhain – Flöha railway line, the railway connection ran through the Lößnitz valley to Eppendorf and Großwaltersdorf (route length almost 14 km). The first section Hetzdorf – Eppendorf was opened on December 1, 1893, on November 1, 1916 the extension to Großwaltersdorf was put into operation. In 1968, when the Hetzdorf – Eppendorf connection was closed, all rail traffic on this route was shut down. Only high-rise buildings have survived from Eppendorf station, rails and other operating systems no longer exist. The buildings are predominantly clinker brick type buildings (see Hetzdorf train station (Flöhatal) ). The locomotive shed, which is a bit out of the way, consists of half-timbering with clinker infills. Eppendorf station is a testament to the development of the railway in the Ore Mountains, which was driven forward by industrialization in the 19th century. With the railway line through the Lößnitz valley, several textile factories and wood processing companies received better, modern transport access. Using the Eppendorf train station, important historical development processes are illustrated, which makes it important both in terms of traffic and local history. As a narrow-gauge station from around 1900, it also embodied a typological value. (LfD / 2015).

Reception building (parcel 1567/38): two-storey red clinker building on a natural stone base, jamb, tooth-cut frieze, clinker trim in the gable, gable roof, one-storey extension to the west, ancillary building (parcel 1567/33): east of the reception building, single-storey clinker building over natural stone base 1567, saddle roof, goods clearance / 37): south of the reception building, clinker brick building with a saddle roof, east side younger extension, engine shed (Bahnhofstrasse 4, parcel 1567/33), half-timbered building with clinker brick infill, north side wall, east side with wooden porch.

Former mansion of a feudal court, later a villa, with a chestnut avenue on the former access road Freiberger Strasse 21
(map)
around 1880 (mansion of the feudal court) The villa of the leather manufacturer Leonhardt, later a kindergarten for the municipality of Eppendorf, today a residential building, a sophisticated villa construction by the Chemnitz architects Kornfeld and Benirschke of great importance in terms of local history, architectural history and architecture.

Originally the mansion of the feudal court, probably built around 1870. Fundamental conversion to a villa in 1920 based on a design by the Chemnitz architects Kornfeld & Benirschke on behalf of the shoe manufacturer Kurt Leonhardt. The construction company Richard Fischer had taken over the construction. The previous building was integrated into the villa building, the original basement was retained. After 1945 the villa was used as a kindergarten for many years. Today the building is privately owned. The original farm buildings of the feudal court were not preserved or were rebuilt. They are not memorable. Originally a road led to the property, now a footpath, which is flanked on both sides by chestnut trees. The Kastanienallee was possibly planted at the same time as the conversion to a villa. Today it is a monument and is also under nature protection. The two-storey villa, a neo-baroque plastered building, with an irregular floor plan is closed off by a high hipped mansard roof, which is crowned by a clock tower with a bell roof. The comparison with the building design drawings shows slight simplifications and changes. It could be that, for example, the originally planned winter garden was not built, as was a wooden bay window on the upper floor on the courtyard side and a large gate entrance next to the villa. The window shutters on the upper floor, which were originally present, as well as the arched dormers were certainly significant for the appearance of the house. Despite all the simplifications and changes mentioned, the building impresses with its balanced proportions. The mostly original windows, some of them sliding windows, are significant for the appearance. In spite of its many years of use as a kindergarten and probably also as a school, the interior was largely preserved. These include simple stucco ceilings in the rooms on the upper floor, parquet floors, wall paneling on the ground floor and wooden railings in the stairwell. The house has a full basement. The basement clearly comes from the previous building, which was built after 1870, judging by the formation of the basement ceilings with cap vaults and double T-beams.

The monument value of the building results from the local historical significance based on the history of use of the house, especially as a residential building for the shoe manufacturer Leonhardt, who is important for the economic history of the place. Furthermore, the building is of great importance in terms of architectural history due to its special characteristics typical of the time and its good original condition. The villa is significantly shaped by the design of the important Chemnitz architects Kornfeld & Benirschke. The fact that the villa is part of the oeuvre of this important architecture firm also explains its significance in terms of architectural history. Due to the high-quality architectural design, the villa continues to be of great architectural importance. (LfD / 2012).
