Railway bridge over Burgstädter Strasse and Altmittweidaer Bach | Burgstädter Strasse (map) |
1905/06 | Pendulum pillar viaduct that characterizes the street scene and consists of steel framework and solid wall girders, engineering structure of importance in terms of the history of railways and technology.
Multi-span, single-track railway bridge with an overhead carriageway over Burgstädter Strasse and Altmittweidaer Bach, dimensions: length 99 m, height 18 m, width 3 m, construction: the opening over the street and the parallel running stream is secured with a steel lattice girder (riveted, predominantly parallel chord, at the outermost compartment the lower chord sloping obliquely to the pendulum pillar, bridged with brackets on both sides of the pendulum pillar, these act as cantilever girders, at both ends a solid steel wall girder (also riveted, with a bent lower chord) closes over the one to the east and the other three western openings (the three western openings are bridged by means of a continuous girder), both solid wall girders are suspended between the cantilevered arms of the central steel lattice girder and the bricked abutments, while the western continuous girder rests on three natural stone pillars made of porphyry masonry, i.e. They have a rectangular floor plan and taper towards the top, the abutments on both sides of the valley are also made of porphyry masonry and each adjoin a railway embankment, the two pendulum piers are made of steel framework and are articulated to the steel framework and the brick foundations on which The bridge girders are supported by the bridge sleepers, which protrude well (to accommodate a service walkway on both sides), the associated simple railing and the tracks have also been preserved, the viaduct that characterizes the valley incision is evidence of an extremely important traffic development for industrial companies in the Mittweidaer Zschopautal, also because it is extremely rare the idiosyncratic construction of a girder supported on pendulum pillars with cantilevers, thus of great importance for the history of the railway and, above all, of technology. To the history of the route: Standard gauge industrial railway Mittweida with the railway lines Mittweida – Drei Werden (route abbreviation MD) and Mittweida Industriebahnhof – Ringethal (route abbreviation MRI), private freight railway from Mittweida to Drei Werden or Ringethal, due to lack of interest on the part of the state railway administration of the later Sächsische Industriebahnen-Gesellschaft AG (founded by private Interested in connecting the Zschopau valley near Mittweida, including industrial companies in the region and the mayor of the city of Mittweida) Established in 1905/06 (route branch to Drei Werden) or 1907/08 (route branch to Ringethal), the Mittweida – Drei Werden route opened for the public Freight traffic 1907, the Mittweida Industriebahnhof – Ringethal line in 1909, connection of numerous industrial companies (e.g. Mittweida cotton spinning mill or Drei Werden paper mill) and quarries, with commissioning of the power station in Mittweida 1909 establishment of the Mittweida power station freight station, a owing to the high volume of freight traffic, route operation with considerable profit for the private operator between 1942 and 1942 1945 non-public passenger traffic (for employees of the cotton spinning mill, in which part of the radio equipment production of the Berlin Lorenzwerke was outsourced at that time), public property from 1949, resumption of the now public passenger traffic to the industrial station, discontinued in 1955, due to declining goods traffic 1970 shutdown of the branch to Ringethal and Track dismantling by 1975, 1992 closure of the section between Mittweida Industriebahnhof u. Former Ausspanne, later an inn with two attached rear buildings and the former horse stable and adjoining barn | Chemnitzer Strasse 1 (map) |
after 1805 | Urban dominant building complex mainly from the beginning of the 19th century and a rear building presumably from the 18th century of great importance in terms of house history, local history and urban development.
The building complex Chemnitzer Straße 1 consists of the inn building (1) directly on the street, a rear building integrated into this building (2), a single-storey rear building connected to house 2 and the single-storey horse stable with barn (4) connected to the south. 1 Inn building: Presumably rebuilt after the devastating fire of 1805 in the Webervorstadt in front of the former Webertor, whereby it cannot be ruled out that the rising masonry of a previous building that has been proven to exist (see Sächsische Meilenblätter sheet 155 from 1790 as well as "Grundriß der Stadt Mittweida" 1790 / 1792) was included. In 1835 the restaurant with distillation, later known as the "Beehive Restaurant", is said to have been founded. At this point in time, the building facing Chemnitzer Strasse today and the adjacent wing of the eaves already existed (view of Mittweida, lithograph, 1837, Pietzsch 1837, art paper, inv. Number SLUB / KS B5617). The two-storey building at that time was closed off by a high and obviously relatively steep hipped roof with bat dormers arranged in two rows, as can still be seen on the gable part of the building, while the eaves building was probably added at the end of the 19th century. The roof of the gable part of the house is likely to have been raised. The building fabric is still largely shaped by both construction phases. The name "beehive" is derived from the charity of the same name, which was founded in 1870 and had its seat in the inn. From the existing buildings and the location on the important road to Chemnitz, it can be deduced that the inn, which was founded in 1835, was probably initially a relaxation area with an associated horse stable and storage rooms. It is currently not known what function the verifiably existing predecessor building had. In the essential urban history literature and the earliest city maps or drawings, there are no references. 2 Rear building (integrated to the north in the house): The existing building stock allows the assumption that this possibly originally detached rear building, which was merged with the main building, was hardly or not destroyed in the town fire in 1805. It is likely that it was built in the 18th century. The function of the house is currently unknown due to a lack of archive studies. There are no clear indications of the time and function of this building in the urban history literature. It is a narrow two-storey quarry stone building with two heavily busted cross vaults, which rest on a pointed arched belt arch. The north wall has been provided with narrow rectangular windows with natural stone surrounds, under each cross vault two rectangular windows arranged one above the other with grilles. In some cases, ceiling beams embedded in wall recesses were retained, which clearly prove that it is a two-story building. The door openings on the south side of the house on both floors are further evidence of this. The round arched natural stone walls, along with the cross vaults, prove the presumed construction time in the 18th century. Another obviously blocked door or window opening from the western gable side of this building would speak against a two-storey building. On the walls and the vaults there are traces of soot under the plastering lime, which could have arisen in connection with the large fire in 1805 or through the use of the room. A connection to the big fire is more likely. According to the current building findings and the files, it can be assumed that the rear building was built as a distillation unit. However, according to the current state of knowledge, the original function is not documented. The building is unique in its construction and is probably one of the oldest structures in the former weavers' suburb. 3 rear building: single-storey quarry stone building, attached directly to house 2. Door portal made of Hilbersdorfer Porphyrtuff. Inside there are two rooms, one of which is a small anteroom and then an almost square, larger room, both with brushed cross vaults on belt arches. Presumably storage room z. B. for beer kegs. In the anteroom there seems to have been a chimney or oven opening (possibly for smoking sausage?). Judging by the way the house was built, this building was probably built after the city fire of 1805, probably in connection with the establishment of the inn in 1835. 4 Horse stable and barn: one-storey, elongated quarry stone building with wooden gates, connected to the rear buildings by an intermediate building that is not worth a monument. Completed by a gable roof, partially collapsed. Inside, stone troughs and mounts for the horses have been preserved. In connection with the establishment of the inn, but probably not before 1843, rebuilt. It was later converted into a gas station, with the building receiving a large canopy, which is now dismantled. With the exception of rear building 2, the entire building complex may have been rebuilt after the city fire, possibly around 1835. It would be possible to include older buildings from a previous building, but this cannot be proven in the existing building itself. As a traditional long-term relaxation and later distillation, wine shop and as a restaurant and clubhouse, the “beehive” with the associated outbuildings acquired great significance in local history. Added to this is its importance in terms of traffic history and thus economic history as evidence of the expansion of roads in the early 19th century and the better transport links between the city of Mittweida and the prosperous industrial city of Chemnitz. It can be assumed that the inn was built in connection with the road connection of the country road coming from Chemnitz. While the road did not open at Webertor on maps from the end of the 18th century, this road connection is clearly visible in the Topographical Atlas of the Kingdom of Saxony in 1843. Furthermore, the monument value results from the historical significance of the building complex as particularly typical and authentically preserved buildings from the early 19th century. The singular rear building (House 2) integrated into the main building is also of particular importance in terms of architectural history due to its authentic and very rare building stock, presumably from the 18th century. Post mileage | Market (map) |
1725 (post mileage column) | Distance column, important in terms of traffic history.
Obelisk on a base in porphyry tuff, with the original coat of arms from 1725. The column with inscriptions on three sides is on the market square. As a special feature, it bears the Saxon-Polish double coat of arms on each of the four sides. The column was largely dismantled around 1850 and the base was used to erect a candelabra. After finding the coat of arms (1965), a reconstructed column was re-erected in 1969. This has been on the market again since 1984. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679–1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system. LfD / 2013. Obelisk on base in porphyry tufa, only the coat of arms stone still original, the specialty is that there are two coats of arms on each side (otherwise only one). |
