Individual monument belonging to the Ehrenberg manor: half-ruin of a wing of the former Ehrenberg Palace Lochmühlenstrasse 4
(map)
16th century (castle ruins) of importance in terms of building history, history and landscape design.

Expert opinion by Prof. Heinrich Magirius from April 26th, 1999: “The half-ruin is the southern part of the west wing of the castle, which was rebuilt or rebuilt by architects Haenel and Adam in 1874-77 in forms of the German Renaissance. The west wing was added as a new building to the adjacent building to the northeast, probably from the 16th century. Since the demolitions in the post-war period, only two storeys have existed, which until then were crowned by a dwelling with gables on the west and east sides. Apparently the remainder of the castle has been provided with an emergency roof and was still used in this condition, meanwhile it is ruinous. Architecturally highlighted is a neo-renaissance portal on the east side with the year of construction, a semicircular niche on the south side, where there was formerly a terrace, and the two-storey window architecture on the west side, with arches on the ground floor and rectangular windows on the upper floor. The garments have the panes typical of the early Renaissance in Upper Saxony, a sign of the connoisseurship of neo-Renaissance architects. - When assessing the monument value, the excellent topographical location high above the Zschopau valley must be taken into account, which still gives prestige and dignity even to the remainder of a once outstanding historicist building. Without the preservation of the ruins of the castle, the manor buildings that have already been listed cannot be historically understood. Since the older cellars of the north wing, which dates back to the 16th century at the latest, have apparently been preserved, which of course are of monumental value, a reminder of the castle building - however designed - is a good idea for the future. The monumental value of the half-ruin of the castle is given beyond doubt by the historical references, but also by the special effect of the property in the landscape and by the architectural details. • Villa with garden: "Linquenda", on an irregular floor plan, plastered, two-storey, loft extension, three-sided opening to the front, terrace. Last structural evidence of the important Kriebstein paper mill, which was demolished in 2012. The monument value of the factory owner's villa results from its particularly typical characteristics, its authenticity and complexity as well as its architectural quality. As the last structural testimony to one of the most important paper mills in Saxony, the factory owners' villa is also of historical importance. House number 7, Kriebethal district, Flst. 100/3
  • Porter's house: one-storey building with a covered walkway on columns, curved hipped roof
  • Remisenanlage: area surrounded by quarry stone wall with square corner towers, defensive character
  • Mulden weir: wide overflow weir below Kriebstein Castle, probably from 1903, possibly with some later additions, served to supply the old Kriebstein paper mill with its immense demand for water, both for the mechanical processing of the raw materials and for the production of the pulp. This makes the weir a clearly visible and essential technical testimony to paper production at one of the most traditional paper production sites in Saxony (Niethammer & Kübler). The weir also denotes the historical location of earlier, verifiable fortifications that served a grinding mill that had been occupied at this point since the 15th century. Thus, it has passed on a place for the production of hydropower that has been known for centuries. The impressive weir system, which can now only be found sporadically in a comparable manner, is becoming important in terms of local and industrial history. District Kriebstein, Flst. 525/1 and district Kriebethal, Flst. 103
  • Factory: house no. 4, 6, Kriebethal district, Flst. 100/4 - demolition 2012 - production and administration building
    • Production building: multi-storey building complex made of quarry stone with porphyry walls, the double windows with segmental arches are consistently maintained as a design element
    • Administration building: plastered building with quite elaborate Wilhelminian style decor, original staircase

The monument value of the entire plant, including the ancillary facilities and the manufacturer's villa, results from their particularly typical characteristics, their authenticity and complexity. The architectural quality of the factory buildings, the administrative building and the villa should also be emphasized. Due to multiple demolitions and renovations due to changes in use, only a few comparable paper mills or factories in general were preserved, so that the singularity of such factory complexes also justifies the monumental value.
