Laundry ironers | Am Schulberg 1a (near) | 19./20. Century (laundry ironers) | Crate ironers from the collection of the Museum of Historical Laundry Ironers in Halsbrücke, as evidence of the mechanization of the smoothing of laundry and as documents for the multitude of different manufacturers, designs and drive systems as well as for their technological advancement of great importance in terms of technology and housekeeping
The present collection mainly documents the development of the domestic and later also commercially used process of smoothing laundry, ironing board, crate ironing, iron and ironing iron, right through to lack of superheated steam. Other objects in the collection document various stages in the development of other textile and laundry machines for household use, such as washing machines, tumble dryers or sewing machines. Of these objects, the 16 ironers listed under collection / equipment and their accessories (several wooden docking stations and four ironing tables) are the most important documents for the mechanization of the strenuous manual work of washing laundry with ironing board and rolling wood and, due to their current rarity and their great importance in terms of technology and domestic history, as cultural monuments according to § 2 of the Saxon Monument Protection Act. Historical classification Box mangles - initially consisting only of a wooden box filled with sand or stones - have been known since the Middle Ages. They were pulled by wooden handles or with leather loops over the laundry lying on the floor or wrapped on wooden rolls. The box was later combined with a mangle table, making it easier to use. Larger crate ironers, which were used in dyeing works, for example, could be set in motion by means of cable systems with the help of treadmills or Göpel works. At the beginning of the 19th century, attempts were made to improve the ironing process, which was still laborious for domestic use, and provided the box ironers with a crank drive. Now the box, which was mounted on the washing rollers, was guided by a ironer frame, and could be moved by means of a chain attached to both narrow sides of the box and looped around a wooden shaft. The direction of rotation of the crank determined the forward and reverse movement of the box. With the use of gear drives and flywheels, not only was a better and more even power transmission from hand crank to shaft possible, the change in direction of the box could also be solved mechanically and allowed the crank to rotate continuously. The failure-prone chain drive could be improved through the use of racks and the box guidance could be stabilized significantly. The box ironers remained hand-operated in housekeeping until well into the 20th century. B. in the mangle houses of the communities or settlements, so from around 1870, especially in the commercial laundries, the lack of power to be operated via transmissions with steam power replaced the hand crank operation. In line with the increasingly sophisticated mechanics of the ironers, a number of machine factories added laundry ironers to their production lines in the course of the 19th century, and factories specializing in domestic machines were also established. The various box ironer constructions, once made by mill builders or carpenters, have now been replaced by series products. Around 1910, the first manufacturers finally began to convert their ironers to electric drives, so that the ironers used commercially were no longer dependent on large transmission systems and thus more location-independent. In the 1920s, electric motors were used to equip crate ironers as widely as possible, so that the previously hand-operated cold ironers were often retrofitted, making private laundry ironing much easier. The high risk potential for the operators associated with the automatic ironer box guidance also led to the development of various safety precautions, such as protective grids, improved box guides and devices for disengaging the drive or interrupting the power supply for the electric motor. Equipped in this way, crate ironers were still in operation in private ironing rooms in many places until the 1990s and could be used by the population for a fee. In commercial laundries, crate ironers were already being replaced by more powerful ironing machines, including hot ironers, towards the end of the 19th century - here, technological development ultimately led to the automated ironer lines of the 1960s. |

Relief panels of the cultural center "Aid" | August-Bebel-Strasse 14 | 1952 (relief) | After the demolition of the culture house in 1996 in the guest room of the “sand mill”, stone slabs with mining motifs were embedded in the wall, as the last evidence of the culture house of regional historical value built to improve the working conditions of the miners
In 1951/52 the VEB Bergbau- und Hüttenkombinat "Albert Funk" Freiberg had a culture house built on the site of the "Beihilfe" mine at Hammerberg, which was supposed to improve and enrich the living and working conditions of the employees in Halsbrücke. The generously windowed three-wing complex included a black-and-white chew for the miners of the “Beihilfe” mine, a company canteen, a library, a music and reading room in which lectures, training courses and various celebrations took place, a large hall for Events and film screenings on the upper floor and a doctor and dental practice in the side wing for the employees of the combine and the community. After several years of vacancy, the building complex was demolished in 1996. The relief above the entrance portal of the main entrance, which shows miners doing various work underground, was rescued by the owners of the "sand mill" and integrated into a side wall of the guest room of the "sand mill". The relief is less of an artistic than a regional historical significance as a testimony to mining and the improvement of the living and working conditions of the miners after 1945, which the combine "Albert Funk" strived for, which led to the establishment of the cultural center. Held in the visual language of socialist realism, the relief is one of those building-related works of art that followed the “art in building” rules that existed in the GDR from 1952. According to this, one to two percent of the respective construction costs for administrative, cultural or social buildings had to be spent on artistic design. |

Reception building and goods shed with intermediate building of the Halsbrücke station | Bahnhofstrasse 4 | 1905 (reception building) | Simply designed clinker brick building with attached goods shed, remainder of the station, which is important for the industrial development of the place, and evidence of the Freiberg – Halsbrücke branch line (6615, see FH), up to
Cessation of traffic in 1995, especially important for the transport of ore from the Freiberg mining area to the Halsbrücker smelters and their products, numerous demolitions, most recently in 2016 of the superstructure, of local, architectural and railway historical significance. The Halsbrücke station is the terminus of the Freiberg – Halsbrücke branch line (6615, sä . FH). The local mining companies strove for a connection to the railway network in order to regulate the transport of goods between the Freiberg pits and the Halsbrücker huts as well as the transport of the products from the huts faster, more cheaply and also more safely than via the road. In December 1887, the state parliament approved the construction of the regular-gauge secondary railways Freiberg - Halsbrücke and Berthelsdorf - Großhartmannsdorf and Brand-Erbisdorf - Langenau. Work on the line began in the spring of 1889 and was completed in the summer of 1890. Right from the start, passenger transport was only of minor importance. When the line opened in 1890, the end point of the line in Halsbrücke was also opened for freight and passenger traffic. In 1905, the stop was upgraded to become a train station. After the cessation of mining in Freiberg in 1969, the line lost its importance, so that passenger traffic was discontinued in 1975 and finally freight traffic in 1995. Today, only the reception building with the attached goods shed has been preserved from the formerly important transshipment point for the raw materials and products of the Halsbrücker huts and companies. The last structural changes were made in 2016 with the dismantling of the superstructure in the station area. The entrance building was designed purposefully and simply in clinker construction as a two-storey building with a gable roof. The only decoration is the sandstone window frames that stand out from the otherwise unadorned facade. The single-storey goods shed with a loading ramp and the typical protruding roof is attached to the reception building via an intermediate building. The Halsbrücke station, which was built during the high industrialization phase of Saxony, is of importance in terms of local and railroad history as a connection point for goods and passenger traffic to the railway network. |

Former sulfur and slag bath, later forge (with old forge bellows) | Hauptstrasse 16 | 1804 (bathing establishment) | late baroque plastered building with a striking hipped roof, of architectural historical importance, as the only former bathing establishment for miners and ironworkers preserved in Saxony of particular socio-historical and medical historical importance
The former cinder bath of Halsbrücke is a building specially constructed by Johann Ernst Spieß as a bathing establishment in 1804 with a striking crooked roof, in which there were originally several bath cells on the ground floor for bathers - mainly workers from the neighboring hut. In baths they could enjoy the warm slag water, i.e. bath water that was originally used to cool down hot slag from the smelting processes of the said hut and was thus enriched with various minerals and salts (sulfur, copper, vitriol, ...). Analogous to the waters from natural mineral springs, these were said to have a healing effect on various mining and smelting diseases such as paralysis, gout, rheumatism, mountain addiction (lung diseases) or lead colic, as can be found in Johann Friedrich Henckel's publication “Bethesda portuosa, Das Helpful water for a long life: a special feature in the Lauchstädter Brunnen near Merseburg and in the slag bath at Freyberg ”from 1726. The bathing business at the site was started in 1801 with a first new bath house by Steiger Gottlob Benjamin Heymann. Previously, with the permission of the elector, he had already offered four bath cells in his own house for the general use of slag water for several years. But it was not until the spa house, which was newly established by Spieß in 1804, that the bathing establishment established itself and was subsequently granted a license to serve alcoholic beverages to bathers. From 1821 until his death in 1871, Johann Karl Kummer ran the “Kummers Hof” bathing establishment and restaurant, after which there were frequent changes of ownership and use, so the slag bath, built in 1804, was also used as a forge. After the restaurant, which was still frequented by ironworkers in GDR times, was closed after the fall of the Wall, the buildings remained largely unused. Finally, the older bathhouse was demolished. Comparable bathing establishments for miners and ironworkers operated in Muldenhütten and Freital in the 18th and 19th centuries have also not survived, making the slag bath of Halsbrücke, built in 1804, unique in Saxony and of particular importance in terms of mining, social and medical history. |

Top floor with the roof truss of the former laundry of the "God's grace and blessing" pit and a tunnel mouth hole | Muldenweg 18 | 1765 (attic of the former laundry - possibly older) | Half-timbered building that defines the street image with a simple tunnel opening behind it of importance in the history of mining
In 1765 an ore washing was built near the Stollnmundloch to process the mined ores close to the site. In 1807, the silver ore mine of God's grace and blessing Erbstolln was neglected, presumably due to falling or lacking yields, and the associated ore was bought by a miner named Johann Gotthelf Naumann. In 1819 another auction of the now "unavailable colliery house, God's grace and blessing laundry in Conradsdorf" by the Naumann heirs follows. The new owner was the top climber Karl Gottlob Krätzer (cf. Härtel 2007, p. 73). Nevertheless, the building was still subject to "the usual mountain reserve" (IFU 1999, p. 67), so it could be reactivated at any time for the purpose of mining. However, this circumstance no longer occurred, so that the former ore laundry has since served as a residential building and has undergone structural changes over the years due to this conversion. All that is on record is the installation of the food between 1880 and 1884, the replacement of the previous straw covering with a hard covering made of cement bricks in 1906 and the renewal of the boarding on the east gable of the house between 1942 and 1945. From 1985 the house was fundamentally rebuilt. The owners replaced the half-timbered structure on the upper floor with masonry, some with aerated concrete. Furthermore, a garage was installed, which changed the original appearance of the house as well as the aforementioned construction work. Fundamental changes were also made to the structure of the interior (around 1880 the ground floor comprised a hallway, shed and stable as well as a room labeled “vault”; the upper floor had an antechamber, two rooms and two chambers). Only a very old roof truss, a collar beam roof with cock beam and central longitudinal bracing, probably around 1700 or older, remained original. Since the original building fabric has largely been lost and with it the original appearance, the former ore wash can no longer be regarded as authentic evidence of mining history. This testimony character only comes from the tunnel located behind the house. The very old roof structure described above and the associated gables are of great architectural significance due to their great age, the rarity of such roof structures and their authenticity. The attic of the old ore laundry and the tunnel opening behind the house are therefore worthy of monument. |

Mill building with technical equipment, remains of the mill ditch and courtyard paving | Rose Valley 12 | 1858 (mill building) | Oil mill with mill technology, largely preserved in its original state, of technical, local and social historical importance
The house, a side building and the mill building as well as the remains of the mill ditch have been preserved from the former oil mill. However, only the mill building with its technical equipment and the rest of the mill ditch behind the mill building are listed. The oil mill was first mentioned in 1568. It was obviously in ruins in 1856. In 1858 the establishment of the oil mill on the site of the previous building is notarized. She produced until 1946/47. After that, production was prohibited. Two-storey, plastered quarry stone building, on the upper floor three window axes, closed off by a gable roof with a large, centrally arranged loading hatch. Window walls and door portal made of Hilberdorfer Porphyrtuff. Street-side gable partly half-timbered with clay infills, facing gable brick masonry, plastered. On the ground floor a wooden ramming mechanism, the ramming hammers were set in motion by means of a camshaft driven by a water wheel. Both the ramming mechanism and the shaft are in a good state of preservation, despite wood damage, the ramming hammers are numbered. The water wheel was originally located on the back of the building and was acted upon by water from a mill ditch. The remains of this trench were set in quarry stone masonry (some of the trench can still be seen in the terrain profile in front of the oil mill). The oat crusher located on the upper floor could originally be operated by means of transmission via the belt pulley of the camshaft. The attic and loft served as storage. Roof truss collar beam roof with single standing chair, tenon wood connections. Staircase between the upper floor and the top floor with inserted steps. The oil mill is of technical historical importance due to the partly preserved technical equipment. The original stamping works, together with the largely unchanged typical mill building, illustrates a process of linseed oil production, which took place in rural areas in the immediate vicinity of residential developments. Despite the lack of a waterwheel, the drive remains recognizable due to the preserved camshaft and the structurally designed Mühlgraben. The supply of oil to the surrounding villages for almost a century and the immediately adjacent residential area on the courtyard and street also give the building a local and socio-historical significance. This is how the mill building can be classified as a monument. Due to the originality and traditional unity of the mill building and technical equipment, there is also a special informative value of the facility, which justifies a public interest in preservation and thus the monument worthiness of the oil mill. |

Side building (presumably a former cottage) | Mohorner Strasse 6 | around 1700 (side building) | Historically and socially significant, small half-timbered house in very good original condition
Probably a cottage built at the beginning of the 18th century, which was later used as a side building. However, the change of use was not associated with extensive structural measures, so that the house has largely been preserved authentically. It is a two-story small and very narrow house with a massive ground floor and half-timbered upper floor, which was partially clad. The building is completed by a gable roof. Several sandstone window frames have been preserved on the ground floor. The half-timbered structure on the upper floor is single-barred with very wide compartments and tenon struts. Two small sliding windows, presumably from the construction period, have been preserved there. The interior of the house is also in good original condition. The house is divided into three zones - the stable area, the central corridor and the living room area. The corridor leads to the middle corridor on the upper floor, to which two small rooms are connected on both sides. The walls of the rooms are plastered, which clearly indicates an original residential use. The ceilings of the very low chambers were obviously raised slightly at a later date. The simple roof structure was slightly damaged by removing collar beams. In the meantime you can hardly find such small, almost cottage-like rural residential buildings, so that the preservation of this old cottage is of great public interest. The monumental value of the house is mainly due to its great importance for the history of the house and the social history, as it impressively illustrates the living conditions of the cottagers around 1700 and the rural building trade of the same time due to its authenticity. |

Bobritzschbrück: Road bridge over the Bobritzsch | Halsbrücker Strasse | 1806 inscribed on the inscription board (road bridge) | Two-arched natural stone bridge on the way from Krummenhennersdorf to Dittmannsdorf, important in terms of building history, traffic history and shaping the townscape
The two-arched natural stone bridge is an important cultural monument of the Free State of Saxony. Resting on projecting, massive central pillars, made of sandstone or rubble stone in the edge areas, it represents an important engineering monument of bridge and road construction from around 1800 (dating of the keystone 1806). The design of the bridge using large sandstone blocks can be described as extraordinary in this area, which is mainly characterized by bridges made from local quarry stone. The historical bridges of the region are one of the most important features of the scenic cultural area, which is particularly characterized by valley and river landscapes. They serve the historical transmission of historical long-distance trade routes between the localities and are indispensable components of the townscape today. The monument value results from the regional and traffic-historical importance. |

Material entirety of the forest mill Krummenhennersdorf with the following total elements: weir, mill ditch, 2 stone arch bridges, 3 millstones and the foundation walls of the forest mill | Road to the forest | 19th century (weir) | importance in terms of local or regional history and technical history
Ruins and parts of the former forest mill, first mentioned in 1348. In 1912 the grinding mill burned down due to lightning and has not been rebuilt since then. After the mill finally burned down in 1912, reconstruction was no longer economical due to competition from more centrally located and water-independent industrial mills, the settlement was abandoned and the building materials were then recycled after the Second World War. This typical process becomes clear from the former forest mill. The current state of the structural remains is also a testimony to the growing interest of the citizens in the region in the 1980s in the traces of their past, in the course of which interest groups came together and secured and partially reconstructed preserved structural remains. Furthermore, the remains of the settlement are located near the old salt road between Krummenhennersdorf and Oberschaar and together with the "salt bridge" (see individual monument document - obj. 08985375) mark the course of this road for vehicle traffic between Freiberg and Meißen. The animals used for the Göpel operation of the mill also supported the draft animals of the carts in coping with the ascent of the road on both sides of the valley, so that this direct connection between the forest mill and the salt road also explains the local and regional historical significance. The block weir is of technical historical importance, the function of which has been evident again since 1985 thanks to the water-bearing mill ditch and the pressurized water wheel. In addition, the forest mill is an example of the typical combination of different types of use at a mill location. First there was a grain mill, which was later expanded to include a board cutting mill. Both uses harmonized with each other thanks to their low energy consumption, a mill ditch with water power and a Göpel plant were sufficient for operation. The local or regional historical and landscape-shaping significance of the entity results from the fact that the former forest mill and the associated mill ditch and its components are the only structural remains of a settlement at this point |
