Memorial to five workers from the former Recenia textile factory who were shot dead during the 1930 strike Chemnitzer Strasse 41
(map)
re. 1955 Monument complex of regional historical importance.

Historical memory: memorial stone for five workers who fell from bullets in a police fire during the Recenia strike on January 15, 1930. History - Information about the Recenia strike: “The Recenia strike took place from November 21, 1929 to February 7, 1930 during the time of the global economic crisis, as a result of which the wages of the workers at Recenia, a textile factory, were cut. The workers then united and the rest of the workers showed solidarity and supported them. Due to the effects of the strike, a court hearing was scheduled for January 15, 1930. The reason given was a claim for damages by the Recenia leadership and that the strike took place without a 14-day collective agreement. However, the negotiation was postponed and the strike was still politically motivated by the KPD. 30 police officers were stationed in front of the Recenia plant to protect the Recenia workers and against the demonstrators. The march of demonstrators consisted of 1200-1300 men. Most of them were unemployed communists. They marched from Chemnitz to the factory premises. The demonstrators should encourage workers to show solidarity. However, the police had blocked all entrances. Fighting and property damage ensued, as fence pickets were removed from surrounding properties and the police were beaten, who then defended themselves with gunfire. Bottom line - there were 5 dead workers and 19 injured, but they were not Recenia workers. There were also 19 police officers injured. The investigation revealed 17 ringleaders who were arrested and charged with rioting and insulting officials. The trial was opened on March 18, 1930 in the Chemnitz regional court. There was a great rush of people who had to be held back by the police. 38 summoned witnesses appeared. The defendants pleaded ON innocence. The verdict bears no relation to the victims and is uninteresting. As a result, hardship and misery spread among the unemployed workers. "

Building history: The memorial was erected in 1955 from Rochlitzer Porphyrtuff in the vicinity of the factory, inscription on the memorial: “In solidarity against the wage robbery by the Recenia capitalists, on January 15, 1930, police bullets fell:

- Bruno Friday (13.06.1895)
- Friedrich Göger (August 26, 1907)
- Johannes Gorschler (June 24th, 1902)
- Richard Häntze (11/17/1903)
- Kurt Thomas (July 10th, 1904) "
