Taurasteinturm (water tower and observation tower)

Taurasteinturm (water tower and observation tower) Am Taurastein
(map)
1912-1913 Built to supply the fast growing city of Burgstädt with water, it is of architectural and local significance, as a landmark that also shapes the landscape.

The Taurastein Tower was built in 1913 based on a design by the Dresden architect Johannes Kühn as a combined observation and water tower on a hill on the outskirts of Burgstädt. The Monierbau-Aktiengesellschaft Leipzig was entrusted with the construction of the reinforced concrete construction, which was progressive for the construction period. The round, plastered tower shaft is surrounded on the outside by buttresses, which rest on a protruding, octagonal base and, after a gradual taper, end as round arched pilaster strips. In the niches created in this way, there are rectangular windows lying on the basement, above them a row of octagonal openings stretched in portrait format and below the viewing platform designed by a row of arcades, large arched windows. The high-quality design ends with a copper-covered dome. Until 1996, the 300 m³ reinforced concrete tank supplied the community with water. After its decommissioning, the tower was renovated from 1998 to 2000 and has served as an exhibition and observation tower ever since. In the combination of water supply and observation tower functions, the Taurastein tower is a rarity as a technical monument. It bears testimony to the development of the urban water supply in the early 20th century and is therefore of local historical value, as well as in its role as a landmark of Burgstadt that is visible from afar. Its sober, sober design language, typical of the time, also gives it historical value. (LfD / 2017)

massive, height 39 meters, water reservoir from 1913 to 1996, also observation tower between 1950 and 1970, closure and subsequent renovation and reconstruction between 1996 and 2000, since then only observation tower.

Totality of Royal Saxon Triangulation ("European degree measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony"); Station 93 Taurastein: triangulation column Am Taurastein
(map)
re. 1875 (triangulation column) Second order station, significant testimony to geodesy of the 19th century, of significance in terms of surveying history.

The Taurastein southwest of the Burgstädt train station, on which the simple granite column for the geodetic fixed point was erected, is a place shrouded in legend. The gneiss rock has small caves and crevices that are supposed to hide the treasure of the Taura stone. A pagan altar is also said to have stood here and Wends are said to have performed sacrificial rituals. The Taurastein Tower, built in 1912 and 1913 as a water and observation tower, is Burgstädt's landmark that can be seen from afar. The tower stands in the middle of the Wettinhains, a park and recreation area with an open-air stage, ponds and an adventure playground. It had a wooden 32 m high predecessor from 1889. It was in operation as a water tower until 1996. Immediately to the south is the surveying column. It is a one-off production by a stonemason from the neighboring village. The tower gallery was very suitable as an eccentric for the ground point, but this has not been set up. In the 1990s the stone column lay overturned on the mountain. The renovation of the tower began in 1998, and the inauguration took place on November 24, 2000. On this occasion, the surveying station was also renovated and the lost cover plate was replaced by a somewhat unsuitable metal pointed roof. In the period from 1862 to 1890, a land survey was carried out in the Kingdom of Saxony, in which two triangular networks were formed. On the one hand, there is the network for grade measurement in the Kingdom of Saxony (network I. class / order) with 36 points and the royal Saxon triangulation (network II. Class / order) with 122 points. This national survey was led by Prof. Christian August Nagel, according to which the triangulation columns are also referred to as "Nagelsche columns". This surveying system was one of the most modern layer networks in Germany. The surveying columns set for this purpose remained almost entirely in their original locations. They are an impressive testimony to the history of land surveying in Germany and in Saxony. The system of surveying columns of both orders is in its entirety a cultural monument of supraregional importance. (LfD / 2013)

2nd order survey stone made of Markersdorfer granite, cast iron cover plate, 1.30 m high, rectangular block with the inscription: "Station / Taurastein / der / Kön: Sächs: / Triangulirung / 1875"

Franz-Enghardt - Heiersdorfer Walzenmühle (formerly): Mill building with office equipment, silo and mill technology as well as an attached miller's house Heiersdorfer Strasse 4
(map)
1945–1946, re. 1946 Distinctive mill complex with complete milling technology of technical and local significance.

The mill building, erected in this form from 1945 to 1946, shows the usual structure of a grain mill with a transmission cellar, grinding floor or roller mill floor, tube floor, classifier floor, lock floor and attic. It is marked 1906 and 1946 on the silo tower on the side. A half-timbered mill stood on the site until 1945, which was acquired by the Enghardts in 1906. The technology, the oldest parts of which may date from around 1906, has been completely preserved. The main transmission is in the transmission basement. On the roller mill floor on the first floor there are six roller mills and a crusher from the Grosse company in Lohmen. The lighter chairs were set up in 1945–1946, while the darker ones are said to date from around 1930. There is also a grinder with a connecting piece, also from large. The tube sheet (first floor) shows essential parts of the blower (pneumatic passage conveyor or pneumatics for grinding), a distribution screw or flour screw, a semolina cleaning machine from Pardubice from 1979, a (lying) bran centrifuge from Zittau from 1967 and mixing machines, one from Kählitz & Lübcke, Leipzig-Eutritzsch (lower ends reach into the roller mill floor). On the sifter floor there are two plan sifters from around 1965, another, no longer used squeezer from the Chemnitz mill construction company and machine factory Max Kaermssen, two vertical mixers and an aspirator from VEB Mühlenbau Dresden from 1965. Several cleaning machines dominate the lock floor, a filter cabinet from the Grosse company ( Logo Gegrolo) and the distinctive separators (cyclones?) That separate the ground material from the transport air. The bottom is called lock bottom because the separators located there are also called locks. The tractor unit and the flywheel of the brake elevator are in the attic (loft). The brake elevator, the elevators and the blower extend over all floors of the mill wing. The elevators end with their feet in the basement and their heads on the lock floor. The rotary distributor on the silo floor is a special feature. The miller's house built in the same style was certainly built between 1945 and 1946.

Compared to the original stock, the Enghardt mill is one of the few historical grain mills in Saxony that has been completely preserved. The time it was built, 1945–1946, shortly after the Second World War, and the design, which with its expressionistic facade elements, is more reminiscent of the architecture around 1925, are astonishing. The technology with all its milling units effectively illustrates how a grinding mill works. The semolina cleaning machine from the Czech town of Pardubice is a rarity, and the rotary distributor is also a rarity. The different units reflect the development of milling machines in a good 80 years, including the step from bucket elevators to blowers, better their simultaneous use (as in the Wauermühle Lohmen) becomes clear. Apart from that, they remind of the many Saxon companies (in Chemnitz, Dresden, Lohmen, Zittau etc.) which produced technology for mills. (LfD / 2015)

Plaster facade with clinker brick, inscription: "Franz - Enghardt - Heiersdorfer Weizenmühle 1906 to 1946", today wheat mill, originally also for rye, owner (2006): Gunda Haubold.

Technical equipment: mostly around 1945/46 as well as older parts from around 1930 and when the mill was founded around 1906, e.g. B. the grinding mill.

Ground floor / roller mill floor: - roller mills from Grosse, Lohmen i. Saxony, around 1930 and after 1945, - grinding mill: with mill stone entrance, around 1920 or earlier, - old squeeze chair: Grosse from Lohmen i. Saxony, around 1900,

2nd floor / pipe tubes: - Mixing machine and scales, standing mixing machines for bran and meal,

3rd floor / sifter floor - squeezer from the Chemnitz mill building establishment and machine factory "Max Kaermssen" with transmissions, around 1900, no longer in use, - standing mixer: screw inside,

4th floor / lock floor - elevator heads, cleaning machine (trieur), club release (?), Old filter cabinet from Gebr. Grosse from Lohmen, probably around 1930–1945, - cyclones (separators) to separate the ground material from the transport air, 1968 - aspirator (cleaning machine), cleaning with air and sieves,

Office: furniture around 1940.

Seifert company - baby laundry production (formerly) (office and production building)
Seifert company - baby laundry production (formerly) (office and production building) Mittweidaer Strasse 7
(map)
1905 (factory building) Textile production building complex of importance in terms of urban and technological history. The factory complex is listed due to its architectural, artistic and urban historical value.

In 1904 the Burgstadt merchant Friedrich Oskar Seifert applied for the construction of a textile factory, which was completed in 1905. The building files show brisk construction activity on the site of the Seifert factory. However, these measures did not lead to any significant changes in the external appearance of this factory building.

The four-story clinker brick building with a high basement is characterized by the regular arrangement of the window axes and the facade structuring elements. The segmental arched windows are combined into groups of two or three windows by pilasters. The symmetry of the building is caused not least by the two side projections. Both risalites are crowned by horizontal blind walls. The floors are optically separated from each other by window sill cornices. The cornice is supported by corbels. The facade was faced with red clinker bricks, while the structural elements of the facade (e.g. cornices, corbels, pilasters) were made with yellow clinker bricks. This appealing play of colors significantly shapes the appearance of the building. The design elements described resulted in a well-proportioned, harmonious-looking structure that has the characteristic design features of historic factory architecture. The artistic importance of this factory building is justified by the creative use of traditional building forms (styles of historicism), the balanced proportions of the building and its consistent facade structure. This building is not only a functional building, rather it embodies the need for representation of its owners and becomes evidence of the rapidly advancing industrialization at the turn of the century. The factory building is significant in terms of architectural history because of its original condition. This building is a characteristic example of historical factory architecture in Germany. At the same time, this company documents the industrial history of the place, as do the few original industrial buildings in Burgstadt from the turn of the century. The city's railway connection in the second half of the last century, in particular, led to an enormous industrial boom in Burgstädt, which also led to the city's growth due to the increased need for workers in the new factories. Today's townscape of Burgstadt is largely determined by this development period. The Seifert textile factory was one of the largest companies in Burgstadt, as the comparison with the local companies shows. The factory building is also a monument. The public interest in preservation is primarily determined by the scientific and documentary value. Due to its good original condition, the building is a testament to the industrial and urban history of Burgstadt. The former factory is also significant in terms of urban planning due to its dominant location on one of the city's main streets and due to its cubature and design. (LfD / 1998)

Factory: red clinker brick, former Seifert factory - baby laundry production, on the ground floor of the office and administration building was probably shipping.
