Burgstädt high school

The Burgstädt grammar school is a general education grammar school in Burgstädt , Saxony .

history

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new school building was completed in 1911 , and the foundation stone was laid in 1912 . In the following year the building was put into operation as the “central school”. At that time it was the largest and most modern school in Saxony.

With the First World War , the predominantly male teachers had to go to war, so teachers became scarce.

After the First World War, the school system was completely redesigned, curricula were introduced, the pupils were divided into gifted and less gifted and there was a separation of the elementary and advanced school, now known as a vocational school. In 1935 the central school was renamed " Hans Schemm School".

In the war years 1940–1945 the school served as a military hospital , a training center for apprentices and a camp for resettlers . The cellars were also converted into air raid shelters . At that time the lessons were only held in a very limited form, later not at all.

After the war, the school system was reformed and the central school became a high school . However, teaching materials were scarce and the lessons could not be held without restrictions. The situation only improved in 1950. The high school was merged with the elementary school of that time and was given the name " Ernst Schneller School". In the following year the secondary school regained its independence and was now called " EOS Ernst Schneller". In the same year, the first "continuous Burgstädter Abitur class" passed its Abitur examination.

With the turnaround , not only the political situation changed, but also the educational landscape. In 1990 the extended secondary school was changed: There were now three transition classes in grades 9 and 10 in which lessons were given. In 1991 the association for the education and continuous promotion of a grammar school in the city of Burgstädt eV , today called grammar school association for short, was founded. This association demanded that the transition classes be expanded to high school.

The grammar school was founded on August 22, 1992. The first high school diplomas were presented in 1994. In the meantime, over 1700 students have passed their Abitur at the school.

From 1998 to 2005 the school building was completely renovated.

Educational offer

The grammar school belongs to the mathematical, scientific and linguistic branch of the Saxon educational landscape. From class 5 the language English, from class 6 French, Latin or Russian, from class 8 Spanish can be chosen as an educational profile. From grade 8 onwards, the profile lessons also offer a natural or social science variant. Interdisciplinary elective basic courses for grades 11 and 12 run as a specialization in biotechnology and thinking-language-reality. The latter is a novelty of the grammar school and unique in Germany. The educational offer is also characterized by working groups.

Working groups

The working groups cover different educational areas. These include projects in sports, a school dog ("dog driver license"), music and science.
