Post mileage | Market (map) |
re. 1731 | Copy of a distance column, of importance in terms of traffic history and the appearance of the square.
The Saxon distance column considered here is a copy made in 2000 of the column from 1731. The column was made of sandstone. The column is divided into a coat of arms with "AR" - monogram and post horn mark, the inscription block and base. The copy was rebuilt at the historical location on the market. In 1722, the Electorate of Saxony began to erect the Saxon post-mile pillars. Elector Friedrich August I wanted to build a modern traffic and transport control system in the electorate in order to promote trade and economy. He entrusted Magister Adam Friedrich Zürner (1679–1742) with the implementation. The system of post mile pillars comprised distance pillars, quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars. The distance columns should be set up in the cities in front of the city gates, later only on the marketplaces. Quarter milestones, half and full mile pillars were set up along the Poststrasse. They received a consecutive numbering (row number), starting from the beginning of the measurement. The all-mile columns were set up outside the cities on the post roads at a distance of 1 mile (= 9.062 km). The distance pillars were marked with the monogram "AR" for "Augustus Rex", the Electoral Saxon and Polish-Lithuanian double coat of arms and the Polish royal crown. The full mile, half mile columns and quarter milestones were all similarly labeled, none of them had a coat of arms, but the monogram "AR". The distances were given in hours (1 hour = ½ post mile = 4.531 km). This mile system was the first European traffic management system. The pillar considered here is of great importance in the history of traffic as part of the nationally significant postal system. LfD / 2013. Sandstone obelisk, coat of arms, block of inscriptions, base, copy from 2000. |

Weir in the Freiberg Mulde with all associated technical systems | Stadtbadstrasse (map) |
1934 | Fixed weir with remnants of the technical equipment for the automatic control of a movable weir attachment in the event of a flood, originally designed for the use of hydropower and today used to compensate for slopes and to extract extinguishing water, as a testimony to the urban industrial history of urban history and, due to the rarity of its construction in Saxony, of technical historical importance.
Fixed weir in the Freiberger Mulde, weir ID 167 in the weir database of the Saxon rivers (Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology), river kilometers 39.820 km, height of the weir threshold 80 cm, width of the weir 47 m, water rights expired, currently only for Extinguishing water extraction and used to level the slope, originally on the right side inlet into a 200 m long upper ditch to the site of hydropower use, former opening of the adjoining 580 m long lower ditch at the northern bend of the river Mulde to the west, a weir at this location has been around since the 14 Proof of the century (according to the state dam administration), supplied several fulling mills of the clothmakers' guild on the right side of the hollow with impact water via a mill ditch, entered as a "weir to the fulling mill" in a map of the Freiberg Mulde at the beginning of the 19th century, on a site plan from 1951 as a dam Krondorf, Metzler & Co. denotes - The company ditch fed the water from the hollow to a turbine of the company (on the site of the former fulling mill), according to the water book also known as "Wehr am Schmiedewehr Roßwein" or "Wehr in Roßwein, Goldbornstrasse", today also: "Wehr am Stadtbad", Weir crown and fore-floor (upstream side) consisting of a concreted half-timbered structure, with an original timber frame at the height of the weir crown, post-floor (downstream side) with stone revetment in front of a final wooden sleeper, timber-frame with peg holes for fastening posts of a movable weir tower that has not been preserved Gate weir (first executed in 1874 by Frassi in the Lambro river near Linate, Italy, 1929 Austrian patent number 114079 by Wilhelm Bock for a "weir attachment that can be automatically exposed during floods" in a similar manner): here are the individual gates / panels around vertical posts that divide the respective panel into a longer and a shorter wing, movably placed on a fixed weir, with the longer wings resting on the shorter of the adjacent panels, while the last panel of this overlapping row is held by a rotating locking bolt made of iron which is automatically released in the event of a flood - i.e. float-controlled (swu) - so that the end panel and thus all other panels open automatically due to the water pressure and increase the flow of the weir many times over. Technical facilities for the automatic control of the movable weir attachment were preserved in some cases: manholes filled with concrete in the embankment with remains of the control system and the associated mechanical rods for the rotating locking bolts, concrete manhole on the left bank of the hollow uncovered in August 2010, with an inlet channel from the upper water, rectangular in the manhole Iron tub, which is suspended on one side and attached to a rotatable counterweight on the other side via a vertical iron rod. 1990/91 Repair of the fixed weir without any decisive changes, uncovering of the remains of the control mechanism in August 2010. Regarding the monument value: - Significance in urban history: evidence of industrial history (use of hydropower by the fulling mill or subsequent industry) - Above all, significance in terms of technology history: significant remains of the only known weir in Saxony from the 1st half of the 20th century (and earlier) of this type of construction with an automatic opening mechanism for the movable defense tower |

Factory complex of a textile factory, with technical equipment (steam engine) | Stadtbadstrasse 40 (opposite) (map) |
re. 1853 | The Wilhelminian-era factory consisting of two buildings, as a former cloth factory of the cloth masters Metzler and Krondorf of local historical importance, the historical, fully furnished weaving room of particular importance in terms of technology history, including a Hartmann card and some jacquard looms (oldest loom from 1914), steam engine with High pressure steam boiler ( Hanomag company ) from 1911.
Roßwein's oldest and at the same time most important guild was that of wool weavers and cloth makers. Around 1800 300 master cloth makers and journeymen were working in Roßwein alone. In 1857, under the leadership of a few energetic entrepreneurs, the cloth makers' guild, which had already formed a cooperative business enterprise since 1565, founded a cloth factory on the site of a grinding and oil mill. The core of the plant was initially a spinning and fulling mill in which cloth was produced on an industrial scale. Under the initiative of the cloth masters CG Metzler and W. Krondorf, the large factory complex that still exists today was built in 1893 and, with the help of steam power, the production of woolen blankets and other cloth products was started. The core of the plant was the foundation building of the spinning and fulling mill. From the factory building, which previously stretched over four floors, only the two lower floors, made of solid rubble, remained, the two half-timbered upper floors were already demolished in the 1970s due to disrepair. The 2-storey building is provided with porphyry tufa walls. The lintel of the courtyard-side portal with a straight roof bears the founding date 1857. The elongated, three-storey factory building was built in 1893, a high-quality brick building (plastered) with clinker brick structure. The building of the steam and power center is a plastered, two-story brick building, a plot of land with the manufacturer's villa at Döbelner Strasse 75. |
