history

The first written mention as Gerwartsdorf took place in 1275 with a Siffridus de Gerwartsdorf . The next mention was in 1336 as Gerwordisdorf , this year Göpfersdorf was also mentioned for the first time. The places were colonist villages of Franconian settlers, that's the name of a nearby district of Waldenburg Franconia . These villages are clearing settlements that emerged around 1200, Garbisdorf is still recognizable today as a street village , which is a German form of settlement. A church consecrated to St. Catherine is mentioned in a document from the Burgraviate of Leisnig in 1473 . It belonged to the parish of Ziegelheim until 1528 and to Flemmingen until 1545, then to Wolperndorf. During the Thirty Years' War in 1637 and 1640, the church was damaged by soldiers. In total, it and its successor building were robbed five times.

Garbisdorf belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, it belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .

On July 1, 1950, Garbisdorf was incorporated into Göpfersdorf. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Garbisdorf came as the district of Göpfersdorf with the district Altenburg at the Leipzig district , since 1990 as a county belonged to Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country.

Attractions

  • The baroque Katharinenkirche was built in 1746 and 1747. The current organ dates from 1902 by Friedrich Ladegast . The church has remarkable gallery paintings. The font is late Gothic and taken from the previous church.
  • The oldest buildings of the Quellenhof , a typical Altenburg four-sided courtyard which was bought for renovation by the municipality of Göpfersdorf in 2001, date from the year 1731. It was given its current appearance in 1804 after most of the courtyard burned down in 1803. The house, a half-timbered house with a plank room, has a large half-timbered gable. In addition, the house is decorated with red porphyry. The massive ground floor of the stable dates from 1731, the upper floor including a porch from 1804. The large barn is currently being partially demolished and then rebuilt. The courtyard has a gatehouse with a stable and a small barn, which is used for events such as concerts or cabaret events.
  • There are other four-sided courtyards in the village, all of which are listed, including the former village inn from 1716, and a side building of the courtyard is a dance hall.
