History and structure of the organization

The Annunciation in a representation by Pietro Cavallini from 1291

The men of the Congregation, also called Sodals , consciously orient their lives according to the Christian faith in the Roman Catholic Church and place this endeavor under the protection of the Mother of God Mary . According to its own statement, the Congregation wants to "be an association of men who, based on [their] community, want to consciously shape [their] life according to the Christian faith in the Catholic Church."

The sodal should endeavor to lead a simple life in Christ, as well as to maintain inner freedom and independence towards himself and the world. These include love for the Mother of God, participation in the sacraments , daily prayer, participation in the Eucharistic sacrifice and sacrificial meal, examination of conscience at the end of the day, annual renewal through the main feast of the Congregation, retreats and pilgrimages . In the family and in public life, the sodal should set a good example for giving credible apostolic witness. The spiritual center of all Sodalen is the Chapel of Grace in Altötting .

On November 30, 2007, 5658 sodals were registered with the MMC. The spatial catchment area of the congregation includes the districts of Regensburg , Kelheim and partly the district of Schwandorf as well as a larger area in the northern Upper Palatinate . The congregation is divided into twelve districts , which are led by the district president as a spiritual adviser and by the district chairman as the secular organizer. The districts are divided into 180 parish congregations, which are looked after by priests as parish presidents and by sodals as parish robbers. Roman The then Bishop of Regensburg Gerhard Ludwig Müller appointed today's Monsignor Thomas Schmid as the new Central Praeses of MMC Regensburg. His predecessor in office was Prelate Heinrich Wachter.

The Central Praeses is supported in the direction of the Congregation by the Prefect, the three assistants, the bureau chief or secretary, the appointed consultors and the Marian Council.

The Dominican Church of St. Blasius has been the congregation church of the MMC since 1810 , after the French set fire to the former Jesuit College St. Paul - the home of the Marian Men's Congregation - during the siege of the city in 1809.

The Congregation Church is currently (2017) being renovated and will be closed for the next 3-4 years.
