Darryl O'Young Yeuk-Hay ( Chinese  歐陽 若 曦 ; born March 26, 1980 in Vancouver ) is a Chinese automobile racing driver . He lives in Hong Kong .

Career

Beginnings in motorsport

O'Young began his racing career in 1988 at the age of eight. Trained by his father, he proved his driving skills in karting and won numerous championships. The climax of his karting career was reached in 2000 when he won the Canadian and US championships.

After a season in Formula Ford , he started in Formula Renault in the United States in 2002 and 2003 before moving to the Porsche Infineon Carrera Cup Asia at the beginning of the following year .

In 2005, O'Young finished third overall in the Porsche Infineon Carrera Cup Asia for Jebsen & Co , the Porsche importer from Hong Kong.

In 2007 O'Young competed for the Schnabl Engineering - LKM - Team Jebsen in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup . He was the first rider from Hong Kong to take part in this series.

In October and November he drove the races in Shanghai, Zhuhai and Macau of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as a guest starter. He won the race in Macau after his opponent Danny Watts received a 30-second penalty for overtaking under a yellow flag, repeating his Macau result from 2005.

In 2008 , O'Young competed in both the Porsche Supercup and the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. In the latter he was champion for the second time with 196 points and four wins this season. He also won the Macau GT Cup, which was held instead of the former Porsche Carrera Cup Asia race.

For 2009 he planned to contest the entire season in the FIA ​​GT Championship - this would have made O'Young the first Chinese racing driver to have completed a full season in this series. However, he missed the third race in Oschersleben. At the end of the season in which he competed with the factory-supported Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of the Belgian Prospeed Competition team, he finished 13th in the GT2 classification.

In the same year the title defense in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia failed; he had to be satisfied with third place overall behind Christian Menzel and Tim Sugden .

In addition, O'Young contested the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in his career in a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR . The vehicle broke down after 16 hours.

In 2010 he took part in the Daytona 24-hour race and finished 13th in the GT class with his team-mates. He was also to make his DTM debut for Phoenix in an Audi . However, he did not start the race.

World Touring Car Championship

O'Young has been competing in the World Touring Car Championship for Bamboo Engineering since 2010 . In his first year Harry Vaulkhard was his teammate, in 2011 Yukinori Taniguchi . In 2012 it is the Italian Pasquale Di Sabatino . O'Young drives a Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T in the championship .
