Sergei Andrejewitsch Afanassjew , also Sergey Afanasiev , ( Russian Сергей Андреевич Афанасьев ; born March 23, 1988 in Moscow ) is a Russian racing driver . He competed in the TCR International Series in 2015 .

Career

Afanassjew started karting in 1998 , which he practiced until 2003. In 2003 he moved into the single-seater racing and was fourth in the Formula Russia . A year later he won this series. In 2004 he started in the Italian Formula Renault Monza. In 2005 Afanassjew moved to the German Formula Renault, in which he finished tenth overall. He also started in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . In 2006 Afanassjew competed in the Northern European Formula Renault , in which he finished eighth overall, and in the Swiss Formula Renault, in which he was runner-up. In 2007 he switched to the Formula 3 Euro Series, in which he was less successful and did not score any points.

In 2008 Afanassjew switched to the International Formula Master for the Italian racing team JD Motorsport . With one win, he finished eighth overall in the overall standings. He also started in six Formula Renault 3.5 races in which he could not score any points. After taking part in DTM test drives for Futurecom TME in December 2008 , Afanassjew contested his second season in the International Formula Masters in 2009 for JD Motorsport. It became clear early on that no driver could keep up with the future master Fabio Leimer . Afanassjew secured the runner-up title in the international Formula Masters with one victory and eight podium finishes in 16 races.

In 2010 Afanassjew switched to Formula 2 . As the best driver who did not win a race, he finished the season in third place overall thanks to regular points. For the 2011 season , Afanassjew received an Auto GP contract with DAMS , the championship team from the previous season. Afanasiev was unable to attend the event in Donington , UK because he had not received a visa . With three wins he was the driver with the most victories at the end of the season. Nevertheless, it was only enough for third place in the championship.

2012 Afanasyev joined the GT -Sports in the FIA GT1 World Championship and launched for by LMP Motorsport supervised Valmon Racing Team Russia . His racing team withdrew from the series after the third race weekend. Afanassjew also took part in two races each of the FIA GT3 European Championship and the ADAC GT Masters . In 2014 Afanassjew started for HPT Motorsport in both the Blancpain Endurance Series and the Blancpain Sprint Series - as the FIA ​​GT series was called from this year on. Stef Dusseldorp was his teammate in both series . In the Blancpain Endurance Series, the two had alternating third teammates. In the Blancpain Sprint Series 2014 Afanassjew and Dusseldorp finished tenth, and in the Blancpain Endurance Series 2014 they achieved fifth place in the Pro Cup with two podium finishes.

In 2015 Afanassjew switched to touring car racing to the Craft-Bamboo LUKOIL team in the TCR International Series . With a second place as the best result, he finished the season in seventh place overall.
