Career as a racing driver and racing team owner

Antoine Salamin started a driving career in sports car racing. Between 1977 and 1991 he competed in 84 international races and achieved five overall and eight class wins. In addition to his international engagements, he drove many races in various Swiss championships. In 1985 he won the overall ranking of the Swiss sports car championship in a Porsche 935 .

His first international race was the 1977 Le Mans 24-hour race , in which he started alongside his compatriots André Savary and Jean-Robert Corthay in a Porsche 911 Carrera RS . The performance ended after 211 laps with damage to the cylinder head gasket. He achieved his first overall victory in 1981 in a statusless race at the Hockenheimring .

In 1987, he founded his own racing team, first taking part in the Interseries and then organizing the financial means to be able to contest a full season in the sports car world championship with Team Salamin in 1988 . Salamin rented two Porsche 962s and got the support of the Austrian liquefied gas company Primagaz for the 1991 season . His best placings as a driver in a world championship race were seventh in the 1988 Brands Hatch 1000km race (with Giovanni Lavaggi and Jean-Denis Delétraz ) and the Spa-Francorchamps 1000km race in the same year (again with Lavaggi ). After the 430 km race at the Nürburgring in 1991 , which he drove together with Pierre Yver and in which he was not classified, he ended both team and driver activities.
