Joseph "Joe" Kelly (born March 13, 1913 in Dublin , † November 28, 1993 in Neston , England ) was an Irish racing driver and dealer. In 1950 and 1951 he took part in the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Great Britain .
Career
Kelly contested his first big race in his private Alta GP , it was the BRDC International Trophy 1949. Not least because of his inferior vehicle, he only reached the finish line in twentieth and thus penultimate.
In 1950 and 1951 he contested the Great Britain Grand Prix - also in the Alta GP . Both times Kelly was so inferior that he was not included in the final standings because he crossed the finish line too many laps behind. He achieved a remarkable result in 1952 with third place at the Ulster Trophy in Dundrod; however, this race was not part of the championship. Kelly was the first Irish Grand Prix participant in history.
After a serious accident at Oulton Park in 1955, Kelly ended his racing career and from then on only occasionally took part in mountain and sports car races.
Kelly worked full-time as an automobile dealer in Ireland and England.
