Bob Laurence Mitchell , also Lawrence Mitchell , (born July 19, 1921 , † 2009 ) was a British racing driver .

Racing career

Laurence Mitchell competed in monoposto and sports car races in the early 1950s . The three outings in Formula 2 cars all resulted from 1952 in Formula 1 races without world championship status . At the Joe Fry Memorial Cup (named after Joe Fry , who had a fatal accident in 1950 ), he drove a Frazer Nash to sixth place in the final ranking (winner Roy Salvadori in the Ferrari 500 ahead of Ken Wharton in the Frazer Nash and Ninian Sanderson , who drove a Cooper T20 ). He achieved another sixth place in the Lavant Cup .

In sports car racing, Mitchell started mostly in national races in the United Kingdom . He contested all races of the 1950s in Frazer Nash racing cars and won handicap races at Goodwood in 1952 and 1953 .

It had its only start on mainland Europe in 1953 at the Le Mans 24-hour race . With his racing partner Ken Wharton he reached 13th place in the overall standings and a class win.
