Paolo Micallef, Archbishop of Pisa

Paolo Antonio Micallef OESA (born May 15, 1818 in Valletta , † March 8, 1883 in Pisa ) was a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Pisa .

Life

He entered the Order of Augustinian Hermits and received on 6 March 1841, the sacrament of Holy Orders . In 1855 Pope Pius IX appointed made him vicar general of his order, this was confirmed by the general chapter in 1859.

On December 21, 1863 he was called to be Bishop of Città di Castello . He received his episcopal consecration on January 10, 1864, the Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina , Costantino Patrizi Naro ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Pietro de Villanova Castellacci and Bishop Francesco Marinelli OESA, sacristan of the Pope . In 1866, after the death of Bishop Michele Francesco Buttigieg, he was appointed administrator of the Diocese of Gozo , which he remained until the appointment of Bishop Antonio Grech Delicata in 1868. From 1869 to 1870 Micallef was a participant in the First Vatican Council .

Paolo Micallef was made Archbishop of Pisa on October 27, 1871. He died twelve years later and was buried in Pisa Cathedral.
