Joseph "Joe" Fry (born October 26, 1915 Chipping Sodbury , † July 29, 1950 in Blandford Camp ) was a British automobile racing driver .

Career

Joe Fry was a mountain specialist who broke some records in the UK in the 1930s and 1940s. He was part of the family that owned the J. S. Fry & Sons chocolate factory founded in Bristol in 1761 .

Fry drove his own lightweight vehicles, which he called Freikaiser wagons . In 1950 he had a fatal accident in a hill climb in Blandford when he lost control of his racing car. A few weeks earlier, Fry had driven his only Formula 1 Grand Prix . At the first World Championship run in Formula 1 history, he shared a Maserati 4CL with Brian Shawe-Taylor at Silverstone . The duo reached tenth place in the final classification.

Joe Fry was killed in 1950 during training for mountain races of Blandford with the Free Kaiserwagen fatal.
