Freikaiserwagen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Freikaiserwagen was a 500 cc racing car from 1948.

The Freikaiserwagen was named after the British racing driver Joe Fry . Fry, who mainly drove hill climbs, had the vehicle designed by Dick Caesar . Caeser, who also designed the Iota racing car, used an Iota P1 for his design.

At first the car had a cross-rotary valve mid-engine , but it constantly overheated and was replaced by a Jap engine. The chassis was made of aluminum and was extremely light. Fry achieved some success with the Freikaiser car, but had a fatal accident in 1950 in a race in Blandford. The wreck was rebuilt by the British collector and amateur racer Jack Moor. Moor replaced the Jap engine with a Norton engine and converted the rear suspension to double wishbones. He named the racing car "Wasp" and competed in amateur races with it in the 1950s.
