Brian Shawe-Taylor (born January 28, 1915 in Dublin , † May 1, 1999 ) was a British racing car driver .

Career

Shawe-Taylor, a Gloucestershire workshop owner, was a car racing driver before World War II . In 1939 he won the Nuffield Trophy and soon after the war he resumed racing. When his entry for the first world championship race in Formula 1 history was rejected in 1950 in Silverstone on the grounds that his ERA was too old, he quickly shared a Maserati with Joe Fry in order to be able to take part in the British Grand Prix . The two crossed the finish line in tenth place, six laps behind.

Shawe-Taylor had a reputation as a fast driver and this reputation earned him several guest appearances on well-known teams. He competed in the 1951 British Grand Prix on a works ERA and was best privateer in eighth place. At Le Mans he shared a works Aston Martin with George Abecassis and came in fifth overall.

His career ended after a collision with Antonio Branca at the Daily Graphic Trophy in 1951. Shawe-Taylor was able to fully recover from his serious injuries, but he did not drive any more car races.
