From 1965 to 1970 he drove various Alfa Romeo racing cars, such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia , Alfa Romeo GTA and Alfa Romeo 2000 GTAm in individual touring car races and in the European Touring Car Championship . He achieved his first success in 1965 at the Roßfeld hill climb , which was held as part of the sports car world championship , with a 19th place and victory in the T1.6 class. He celebrated his first overall victory with an Alfa Romeo vehicle, an Alfa Romeo 2000 GTAm, in the 1970 touring car race in Hockenheim.
In 1969 he drove a Porsche 906 in several sports car races and scored his first race win at the Hockenheim finale.
In 1971, Schüler switched to the Steinmetz team and drove an Opel Commodore GS 2800 in the 3rd division of the European Touring Car Championship for a year . In the 2-liter European sports car championship , some GT races and in the German Automobile Circuit Championship (DARM) he drove an Opel GT 1900 , with which he achieved several victories in the GT2.0 class.
In 1972, Schüler started with a Ford Escort RS 1600 in the 2nd division of the German Racing Championship (DRM). There he was able to win the race at the Mainz-Finthen airfield race, the Schauinsland hill climb and the 500 km race at the Nürburgring. With these victories and two further second places in Diepholz and Hockenheim, he secured 6th place in the DRM season ranking.
He drove his first long-distance race together with the native Kenyan Edgar Herrmann in 1968 in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in the European Touring Car Championship. There both achieved 8th place with a Porsche 911 . In 1972 he competed with Reinhold Joest in a Porsche 908/03 at the 1000 km race in Monza in the World Sports Car Championship. Both finished the race successfully with second place overall. In 1974 he drove again with Roland Heiler for the Joest Racing Team in Monza. Due to the loss of oil in the Porsche 908/03, both had to give up the race early.
In addition to touring and GT vehicles, he also drove a Lola formula racing car in Formula Super Vee.
In 1974, Schüler retired from racing and set up a catering company with his business partner Michael Presinger. One of his best-known establishments was the Dorian Gray discotheque, which opened at Frankfurt Airport in 1978 . In 2000 the discotheque was closed because it could no longer meet the fire protection guidelines of the time. He owns around 34 restaurants and discos in Germany.
