Pierre Dumay (born November 21, 1928 in Algiers ) is a former French car racing driver who competed in races under the pseudonym Loustel .

Career in motorsport

Pierre Dumay began motorsport in the 1950s. First he competed in motorcycle races and switched to automobiles in 1955 and from then on competed in sports car races . He had his first successful racing season in 1960. He won the Coupes de Vitesse in Montlhéry , finished fourth overall with Fernand Tavano in the Le Mans 24-hour race and finished second in this year's Tour de France for automobiles with partner Jo Schlesser . He also finished fourth - again with racing partner Tavano - in the 1000 km race in Paris . A Ferrari 250 GT was the emergency vehicle for all missions .

In the following years, Dumay became a successful Le Mans starter. In 1965 there was even the opportunity to take overall victory during the race. The race developed into a duel between two Ferrari 250LMs . One, registered by the North American Racing Team , was driven by Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt . The second 250LM was reported by Pierre Dumay, who shared the cockpit with Belgian Gustave Gosselin . On Sunday, almost two hours before the end of the race, this 250LM was safely in the lead when Gosselin had a puncture at the end of the Les Hunaudières straight. The tire exploded and destroyed the body on the rear of the car. Gosselin brought the car back to the pits, but the tedious repair work meant that the team lost seven laps and had to be satisfied with the second entanglement.

Dumay's last race was at Le Mans, where he retired prematurely in 1967 after a cylinder failure on the Ford GT40 .
